macro question

    macro question

    i have a D40 with a Tamrom 70-300mm macro lens. this lens is new to me. i would like to know of what kind of settings would be the best for taking macro shots. should i have a larger aperture or a small aperture? thanks for any info

    D40 18-55MM 55-200MM VR Tamron 70-300MM
    Canon S3 IS
    Canon A570 IS
    Kodak Z710

    Probably f11 and use a tripod.

    As canon office says try around F11. I found those type of .5:1 macro lenses at the long end very hard to use. You'll find you will get better shots by using it at the 70mm end with a set of extension tubes (eg Kenko).
