Well if that's what you want, then you should listen to John Cage's 4'33"! Wink [;)]

You mean where he copywrited silence?? That's taking it a bit far. Perhaps it's just old age that makes soothing music so inviting. At one time I might have chosen something more raucous.....now, give me Ella Fitzgerald.....class over volumeWink [;)]

Why does "Chill Out Music" HAVE to be quiet.

    Re: Chill out music

Why on a Sunday morning or a warm summer afternoon would you want to be semi-comatose or heavily relaxed?
Surely after working all week we should be using that time to get out and about seeing and doing things. Even taking pictures.

I never understood why Radio 2 had "Steve Wrights Love Songs" on a Sunday morning. A right morbid couple of hours that was if you were of the mind to listen to it. I'm not against a bit of luvvy-dubby, far from it, but a good dose of Lemmy (well ok perhaps that's going a bit too far, I've got nice neighbours) gives a more feel good factor than Enya.

P.S. I've nothing against Enya or anyone who likes her music.....

Dave Gilmour's album, 'On An Island' is worth a listen to and I always find Pink Floyd's 'Division Bell' to be quite relaxing too.

Whatever turns you on...this is'nt meant to be a serious debateGeeked [8-|] - perhaps the thread should have been titled 'if you mainly like loud music what sort of quiet music do you like when you're not in the mood for loud music and you just want to lie back and listen to something quiet'.....but on the other hand that was a bit long Whisper [:-*]

Hot summer sundays if I'm not actually going anywhere special, I'm usually out before 6am and after a long walk when I'm back at 11am a relaxing lie down with a cool drink is very welcome!

    some faves at shelf-towers.

    the Penguin Cafe Orchestra

anything by System 7...featuring Steve Hillage. very chilled and trancey.

Fluffy Little Clouds or most early stuff by the ORB.

    One Dove

    William Orbit

the "This Is" chill out series of discs.

more bluesy than chilled...but John Lee Hooker is great for a lazy sunday morning.

    Re: Chill out music

The Ministry of Sound did a series of Chill Out CDs a few years back which I love listening to when I want to chill (usually with a beer or 3) - I think that there was also a series of Ibiza Chillout CDs as well.

I also like listening to the Afro Celt Sound System to chill, they do some cracking stuff as do the Ozric Tentacles.

Like Si, I also like Dave Gilmour and some of the Pink Floyd CDs (Division Bell in partucular) to chill to.

For me though, there's no hard and fast rule as to what I will listen to to chill as I just love music and am open to listening to most things (thought I don't like rap and hardcore dance music, to me that's just noise).  It depends on what my mood is, I guess.

Oh, as an afterthought, Moby, Rob Dougan and Craig Armstrong are all also very good.

    Cheers
    Ian

Whilst I like Steve Wright, his sense of humour makes me laugh, as an old singly the love songs thing just makes me cringe!  Sunday mornings I'm usually sleeping after working a 6 day week!

Paul Anka - Rock Swings, not completely chill out music but I enjoy listening to it after a few beers. One of the best covers albums ever, he could teach Mark Ronson a thing or 2.
