    Canon EOS400D and studio flash

    Hi all,

Ok, having got my flashgun sorted, I now need advice on studio flash. I use a Jessops portaflash but can't find a PC socket on my 400D. Am I being dense/blind/stupid (delete as appropriate) or isn't there one? If I'm unlucky and there is no PC socket could I use a bog standard hotshoe adaptor or does it need to be dedicated to the 400D?

    Take gentle care....

Marie: you are not blind dense or stupid....... for some strange reason Canon forgot to add a PC socket to the 400d. You can use a bog standard hotshoe adapter to fire the flash.

    hope this helps

    Thanks for that David,

Glad I'm not going senile before my time! Looks like it'll have to be the adaptor then.  Love this site, always gets a question asnwered!

STOP !!!  Have you checked what the trigger voltage of the flash is? Using the hotshoe adaptor is fraught with danger.

THIS   is your safer option - I have one of these that work well with 350D - company is quick and reliable.

Re: Canon EOS400D and studio flash

Trigger voltage of the 400D is 5.5V  ,voltage of jessops porta flash 11V, better safe than sorry might not give problems in the short term but in the long term could do damage to the cameras electronics. Cannonoffice's suggestion or a infra red trigger would be advisable.

I do use a cheap wireless radio transmitter with my 400D that I bought along a three no brand names flashes on ebay. The wireless system include a hot shoe mounted transmitter and a little radio receiver. Guess you could look that way too :)
