Re: owner of the longest thread?

Back from Mexico now and I decided to take both cameras.  Had a great time and came back as an amateur diver !

Having the 40d with me made me appreciate having buttons push and knobs to turn. so much eaisier than trying to remember how to change the appeture on the compact one !   Next will be a decent IS zoom lens.  I'm  thinking of a 55-250 is for £180 whilst I save up for the 100-400mm L IS.  I still need the compact doe diving though, as I aint gonna pay £2k for a housing for my 40d !

    Enjoy hols marty matey.

    Hi to all others.

Re: owner of the longest thread?

Sorry John and Neil. Since my last post we have had some seriously bad news, both involving very close rellies with cancer - one (mum), thankfully, despite initially being lead to believe the opposite has turned out to have an operable condition, but unfortunately the other does not. This is why I haven't been around, and at one stage we thought we would inevitably have to cancel. However, as I said, she can have an operation which should be in 4-6 weeks should she accept (84) but its her decision. We will be well back by then. My other rellie lives a long way away so I'm afraid we can't do anything to help his situation.

Anyway, we will do our best to enjoy the Iceland trip - just two weeks now. It is quite impressive scenery isn't it John?

    Mart

So sorry to hear your news, both of my parents went this way, but where there's life there's hope so everything crossed for you and yours m8.

There was talk of marriages in this thread and I have just returned from my son's so I am now a father in law! Hucking fell bunky chollocks! Can I be justified now in being a grumpy old git? :). The proceedings were wonderful, how have the rest of the nuptuals been, or are they yet to happen?

It seems as if people are abandoning this thread. I found it on page 4!!!! .
Say Mart how did the holidays go. Seems as if Neil had a good trip and how are the honeymooners although by now they think they are an old married couple old at least . Is DMT planning anything exciting come on guys push the pages up. Not done much this year but will be going away to a cottage with the wife granddaughters, daughter and son-in-law in two weeks and then in September away for another two weeks in P.E.I.
Without the laptop had 5 days left on the 3 yr. warranty and was having problems with it when hooked up to the mains took it into the local Staple/ Business Depot to check out the power converter they said it was the connection on the mother board so sent it back to ACER to get remedied three weeks ago called today they said they had to order a special keyboard have received it and to check back on Friday need it for the cottage and for sure the trip to P.E.I.. Hope everyone has had a great yr so far. Keep your sensors clean.Big Smile [:D]Stick out tongue [:P]Wink [;)]Party!!! [<:o)]

Re: owner of the longest thread?

So what the chuffin' hell's this all about then! I would read the thread of course but I've got to go to work in the morning.

I mooched along here in a down moment, whilst trying to think of something wonderful & brilliant to shoot for the forthcoming 100th weekend competition. I was hoping for subliminal inspiration from the many and varied posts in this thread, but I get the feeling the maelstrom of thoughts, feelings & ideas haven't had the desired effect.

    Or have they?

Morning Marianne, nice to bump into you over breakfast. I'm sure you'll be delighted to hear that whilst you were sipping down the last of your mug of coffee I was haring across central Birmingham getting rather wet! Still, at least it's cooler today.

This weekend's forum photo comp is a free for all, which I reckon makes it more difficult as there's nothing to focus the mind (or mine at least!). Should be a good turnout, what with it being the 100th 'anniversary'. I look forward to seeing your entry!

Re: owner of the longest thread?

    Hello people

Bit of a name change here, couldnt remember what I used all those years ago, two PC's I think? (Might have been swanlady but I just cant remember).  Old age comes to all of us.

Glad to see the longest thread is getting longer - had to add my little missive, Hi Marianne & Barry, lovely wedding pictures by the way.

Anyone tell me what size pictures are allowable for the upload to the comp (tee hee) well got to get back into photography its been a while and need to get snapping.

I've got the cance to get either of the follwing lenses.

    Canon 70 - 200mm f2.8 L IS

    Canon 100-400mm F4.5 - 5.6 L IS

would be for general photos and motorbikes on track ?

    Cheers in advance.

Re: owner of the longest thread?

thinking the 100-400 might be too long for general photos so what about the 70-200 and a 2x converter that way you have the 2.8 for general stuff

Re: owner of the longest thread?

That was my thinking Keith.  The only flaw is that the x2 converter then makes the 2.8 into a 5.6.  but I suppose you can at least g othere, whereas the 100-400 can never be a f2.8 lens.....
