...this is what's wrong with this country.......

    Call to scrap 'anti-teen' device
"it is not a fair way to treat young people."

They say its against their human rights! What about the human right of the Garry Newloves of the world? His family? No wonder we have anti- social behaviour, murders and stabbings on the streets when your not allowed to 'punish' or in fact do anything to youth causing anti social behaviour. Oh sorry - you can. You give them a badge saying 'ASBO' on it, you know, like a Blue Peter badge.......

The use of these devices should be spread far and wide. Why not stick them of fire engines - may help stop kids lobbing bottles, stones and fireworks are the crews. Either that or turn the hose on them.....

    /end rant

well to be honest they seem fairly pointless to me.. ok have them outside   "convenience" shops and they.. the youngsters.. will move on.. to maybe stand outside my house.. or yours..

having them late at night at railway staitions .. maybe.. but as the article points out it affects all kids.. not just the so called badduns.. and that isnt really very fair..

One has recently been installed locally at a shopping precinct, where the recent serious crimes (assault and robbery) have been committed by adults...
They are yet another example in this country that rather than address the actual problem, its easier to treat everyone as guilty by default.

Now waiting for Windy from Sheffy to object to another Britain-knocking thread Wink [;)]

Re: ...this is what's wrong with this coutry.......

Theres one in town where I live, its mildly annoying, but no one pays any attention to it.

Especially not me, because I have tinitus so i can hear a high pitched sound most of the time anyway.

I would argue that the people that these devices effect properly are those that suffer serious autism (No I dont mean dislexic, I mean proper problems Like AS and such) as these people are often more sensitive to high pitched sounds and can also find it to be quite painful or uncomfortable. (My older brother Has got AS and so has one of my friends, my mum also works in a special needs school)

"Yobs", despite being of low intelligence, don't find the sound painfull, or uncomfortable but just irritating, and you still see kids hanging around outside where these things are.

Having said that, the ones I've seen are always on, so they may be weaker then the temporary ones.

How about arming shop keepers and fire engines with tear gas Big Smile [:D]

Re: ...this is what's wrong with this coutry.......

The recent news about this has really been annoying me.  I'm nearly 30 and I can hear the things, despite the BBC continually saying that I cant because I'm over 25.

I do think that they are pointless though.  They just move the problem on to somewhere else.

We used to have a big problem going to the shops, it got to the point where we stopped going, not because of teh fear, but because people were actually getting beat-up just because they wouldn't buy the kids cider.  The worst of it is, the parents of these kids all live around the shops.  Eventually the police parked a van there from 6-9pm and after several arrests the trouble has stopped.  I guess the parents didn't like having ther names in the papers.

I'm not sure why if the crime rate is going down we are investing more than ever before in the police, firebrigades are coming under attack more than ever, and we are having to build more prisons.  Something doesn't add up to me.

These devices are placed in trouble spots - outside 'booze world et al' which in itself is not for youths to be hanging round.

The point I was making is that what ever solution is put forward, some one moans about bleeding human rights of those who cause the trouble and anti social behaviour.

Punish the parents for their offsprings wrongdoings.

    First offence - Fine them
    Second offence - Jail them
    Third offence - Shoot them

    Job Done

Well ok. Shooting may be a bit OTT. Perhaps take their television away.

Here we go again, welcome to Stans tiny bigotted world where you are labelled as "PC" if you are not somewhere to the right of the Ku Klux Klan.
Come on middle England, I'm waiting for you all to jump to his defence again citing "freedom of speech" as some sort of justification for his offensive spoutings.

Not at all, that is the polite term as used in the southern states. As used in Stephen Fosters songs. Just watched the police prog on TV.After a car chase the two felons jumped out of the car. Guess what colour they were.

Having lived in the Southern US, I can safely say that only rednecks and what remains of the KKK use that term, and it is considered highly offensive to all outside of those mentioned two categories.

Isn't redneck a derogatory term for poor uneducated whites in the southern USA, whatever their racial views are? It was when I was there. I expect they find that offensive. Why not go the whole hog and mention Trailer Trash!
