How it used to be,
"Welcome to the Reader Portfolios section, where you can submit your photo galleries for the world to see, and comment/vote on other people's galleries. The most popular photos will appear on the front page of the site, so get voting now!"
Now as the existing voting system is switched off, and clearly doesn't work when it's switched on, surely this now comes down to the personal preference of the person choosing the pic. If he likes it he posts it up, simple as that. Spose they could stop doing it all together, then people wouldn't have anything to moan about.
After all it's not a competition.

Yep, agree with you there Mick, at least until September when things are going to change according to JD.
I don't think it wise of JD to try and rule the forum with a rod of iron or big red button most people will kick up their heels at this approach. Whilst on the subject I have to say that over the last few months the forum has ground to a stand still, it used to be topical, funny in parts, as people voiced their opinions about a vast range of subjects, this now seems to have come to a halt which is a shame is it because JD is pressing his red buttons or are people to worried about being pulled up for not being pc, just a thought.

You aren't the only person who's noticed a change in this place recently.

I haven't actually banned anyone (apart from spammers), or even deleted posts by anyone, unless I've received more than 4 separate complaints from other members on multiple occasions. As for being non-PC, I never said that was a problem. I'm hardly the picture of political correctness. Of course, there's a line between PC and blatant racism/sexism, and so far only one person's crossed it and been banned for it. Oh, and I don't have any big red buttons really. And speaking of deciding whether to ban people or not, is someone going to own up to being this guy?I thought it might just be someone with.... limited abilities, until he posted "tbh i fink dis is rubbish chek owt myne 4 real gd 4togrphy" on today's POTD. No one talks like that unless they're pretending to be someone who talks like that :) I'd ban him, but I'd prefer for him to post more parrot photos. I like parrots. 'night all.

Spiritflier:So come on JD... stride into that office of yours, use a bit of the fire and venom you lay on us and tell the powers-that-be just how narked some of us are getting. You're obviously passionate about this place - make your bosses know how passionate we are too!
You don't think I do already? :) It's no secret that all these meetings are working towards something greater, and that means standing up in front of the Future equivalent of Dragon's Den and handing round print-outs of forum threads. As for being ham-fisted - guilty as charged. On the other hand, though, if I just did what the guidelines say and copied and pasted the T&Cs as a reply, people would think I was a robot, and an annoying robot at that. Right, I'm really going to bed now (have just driven for 4 hours - now seeing double)

So I've posted into a few threads that's received "more than 4 seperate complaints from other members on multiple occasions"?
... unless this is another joke I'm apparently unable to see.

Hmm...
... in another forum I read, there's a poster who suffers from ASD, and makes no effort to hide the fact. His posts are littered with typos and unusual spellings, yet his posts are amongst the most interesting. I've often wondered how such a person would survive in this "Correct pronunciation and spelling are essential" place.
It seems I have my answer... on various aspects.

Forseti my friend. Just because some of us haven't been members for years and may not post oftern in the forum is not the issue!! Maybe when I'm a lot better at photogrphy I will!! And as for 15minutes of frame, now thats total rubbish. I joined this community to improve my photography and believe through the support of people that are regularly viewing and commenting on my gallery I am achieving this. I comment on other peoples galleries also and like the rappore that has developed in doing so. As you say, each to his/her own. Personally I felt very sorry for the original member who got caught up in what was just normal soap forum critics. Saying that, if I made the front page and people gave my image negative comments it would only make me try harder to improve. I still believe there were more credible shots that could have made it insteed though on this occation.
Rgds Alan.
The weekends here at last yeppee!!
