Triff, pyro! Nice and sharp, and you obviously thought hard about where to be to capture the action. You could try cropping in tight to the man and the splash in a portrait format maybe? Not that I'm any expert. I went to a motocross meeting a couple of weeks ago for the first time. Got about 3 useable pics out of around 120 :-) Here's one of them... Larger version in my gallery.

    Re: Post your best here...

I'm not sure if this sort of thing belongs on a photography website? I liked the geometries of this roller coaster, but my original came out of my Kodak P712 (my what? - go Google it!) as dark grey against light grey, a dismally boring pic. I used a threshold command to separate into 2 colour black and white, then used the result and its negative to serve as masks for a couple of gradient filled layers.

    Any opinions?

    Re: Post your best here...

I can - the composition is wonderful - the suitcases lead you up round the sloping wall, along the ceiling, down the racks and back along the table edge and grain of the wood. The warm browns are nicely offset by the touch of coolness in the racks, and the stillness of the subject is offset by the energy of the eyes' movement. It could be the attic next to the room with the wardrobe from C S Lewis! Splendid work!

And Martin, I like your portrait too. Delicate work with the face really gives your subject character and individuality, and the landscape format allows you a good, punchy contrast between your subject and the background, especially as you have avoided placing her in the centre.

    Re: Post your best here...

    Hi Martin,

The composition and use of light and dark are superb - the light face against the dark background works very well, and the tendril of hair across the jaw frames the face very effectively and gently. The lady should be very pleased with this photo, it does her justice.

The only negative comment would be the blown highlights of the forehead, cheek and nose - this may have happened during the editing, or when the photo was uploaded to the site.

    Regards,
    H.

PS. there's also that odd bit of light something directly over her head...might try to subdue that a bit with some burning.
