    Anybody fancy an editing Challenge?

    I have this old photo...

Any suggestions on how to improve it?

I have no idea were to start, it seems to have some colour cast, and have tried tweaking it in Lightroom but have got nowhere.

If anybody fancies a go there is a full size version here

    Thanks

    Pete

Quick edit with curves in CS3 - could be improved - this was only a couple of minutes!

    Pete,

My lack of PP skills is legendary, however the colour cast should be quite easy to overcome if you have either elements or CS#. If you open the editor and then choose <File-Open As> select your JPEG file and then choose the RAW file option from the drop down box, the JPEG will open in ACR allowing you to alter the White Balance as with a RAW file. This should allow you to correct the colour cast as well as make other chnages.

    Cheers, Peter.

Here's my attempt, what do you think, most of the major scratches have also been removed. Fullsize here http://community.dcmag.co.uk/photos/gm0kdcs_gallery/images/796820/original.aspx.

After posting this I applied an amunt of sharpening and the image loks even better.

Here you go but I have not cloned ou the numurous dust spots from the scanWink [;)]. Also straightened the horrizontal as it looked odd to my eye.

Re: Anybody fancy an editing Challenge?

Hi Pete, your image is cool with the crop & straightening of the horizon etc but I'd say the image sits to much in the blue/green area, add a touch more red to warm it up a notch...

    My opinion obviously...

It's mad how people see the image differently, either that or we all need to calibrate our monitors...lol

Re: Anybody fancy an editing Challenge?

hey blandfordp, Anglefire is spot on with his advice in using curves, one of the best and quickets local colour correction tecnqiques when its used correctly. using the shadows, midtones and highlights dropper you can selectyivley pick each tone amd photoshop corrects your image for you.  it litterally takes 30 seconds to do.

What an interesting challenge. I'm not having a go as I'm no expert here but for what it's worth I think Gdallas' attempt looks the most natural.
