I've just (May 1st) received my June issue of DC Mag. I know you chaps like to play one upmanship, but this really has got to the silly stage. Could you perhaps label the next issue June 2, and time the articles appropriately so that we are reading the (say) December issue, with all the Christmas themed articles, actually during December?

Thats what happens when you produce 13 issues per year, i.e. 1 every 4 weeks rather than 1 per calender month, every now an then you meet yourself coming in the opposite direction.

I agree with what you sat and understand the 13 issues vs the 12 months in a year.

 

However an issue number with the publish date would help and especially the issue number/date on the free CD would help when I try and find the CD to go with an article  in a back issue that I am reading.

It's often a subject of mirth in magazine publishers. When I worked on Windows Vista Magazine, we couldn't decide whether our launch issue should be January, February or March - we were making the poor designer change the bottom of every page every few days when we thought of a good reason why it should be one or the other.

Generally, the idea is that if someone walks into WH Smiths on the last day of a mag's sale, it'll still be for the month that's about to start, and not the one gone - otherwise people will think it's 'old news'.

As for reading Christmas articles before Christmas - think about us writers. The mag goes to press at least 3 weeks before it hits shelves, and things have to be written two weeks before that. So we're writing about how to photograph robins in the snow at the start of October...

Hi Ann,

The issue number is shown on the spine of the magazine but not on the front cover for some reason, if you look at the CD, right at the bottom just to the right of the Future logo you will see it shows the issue number as DCMXX/Month/Year, the XX being the issue number corresponding to the number on the spine of the mag.

Thank you - I file all the CDs in a folder when I get them and don't keep the CD cover wher the issue number is easy to read.

I can see where the issue number on the CD is but will have to get a magnifying glass to read it - even with glasses on (old age creeping up) I cant read it.

Perhaps they could make the print size a bit bigger.
