hi guys,

Just wanted a bit of advice.

Im a noob, looking to go into night photography (long exposure, landscapes) and lower light.  im also looking to take some hdr photos as ive seen them work quite well in lower light landscapes.

can anyone recommend a dslr that can do this automatically (ie auto exposure bracketing)

ive been getting a bit interested in the olympus e420 mainly because of the very compact size and pancake lense, however im concerned that the ccd size may not be suitable for night photography, but im not sure about this, im just deducing.other than that the new canon looks ok but i feel it is a bit overpriced. what about the nikon range? i was originally going to get a d40 but realised that it doesnt have auto exposure bracketing.

im in korea at the moment and need a good hobby that i can do alone, cus there aint many english speakers where i am!!

p.s does anyone have a link on a guide to taking landscape night shots and also hdr?

My advice is try out the cameras you have narrowed down, because 'feel' is as important as image quality - which isn't going to vary a lot. I  have an Oly E410 and am happy with it, as I was with my Canon 350D before - I changed purely because I found myself having to clean the Canon Sensor too often! Of course that has all changed now ..

Don't forget when you are choosing a camera that long exposure photography (1 second or more) can generate lots of noise.  Make sure your choice has some kind of noise reduction filter for long exposure photography in the menu, or as a custom function.
