    Re: What annoyed you today?

Traffic had just come to a halt (we had been warned) his brother was travelling behind me and broke down, he decided to roll back to stop and help (that was his explanation) ... obviously wasn't aware I had been behind him for a while.  I wasn't that close either.  It was the tow bar on his landrover that did the damage.  The brother had indeed lost the ability to put his landrover in gear.

No personal injury so police aren't interested, send Highways Agency who were very helpful.  Yes, got all his details.  If I do accept cheque then if it does bounce I will go the insurance route, still trying to speak to my family for advice.

    Cheers

    EyeWest:
Meter reader.. sounds like an enjoyable job actually, with a level of freedom not found in the office! And you get to size up photo opportunities on the hoof.. lucky!

It is an enjoyable job (most of the time)... It's physically demanding and requires me to be able to interact well with people. I have a great deal of personal freedom (more than I get at home) and a fair degree of autonomy. As long as my work gets done, my boss doesn't mind how. I spend a couple of hours in the morning sorting out paperwork and then I'm out until about 7 in the evening. I spotted a potential photo location this evening although ironically, it came about as a result of looking to see what sort of housing I'd be visiting by trawling through Google Earth and not from actually pounding the streets! Big Smile [:D]

    EyeWest:
...I can't believe that people would have the cheek to berate you or imply an lack of intellect from your choice of career...

Yeah, well there are one or two sanctimonious pillocks on every forum! I had a look at the gallery belonging to one of 'em and all I can say is they've obviously spent so much time looking down their noses at others, they're unable to compose a half-decent picture through the viewfinder!

    EyeWest:
...Mind you, I try to find some amusement in the sad fact that I go to work to generate taxes for the lazy gits to sit at home all day smoking pot and watching Jeremy Kyle, in between popping out to collect their benefits and on the way back robbing my house, mugging my gran and stabbing my neighbours kid.. It's a charmed life (N.B. These things have not actually happend to me; they are for illustration purposes only).

Depending on where I'm working, I can go from one house to another down the entire street and be able to keep track of what's going on on the Jeremy Kyle show! What is it about that program? Is it required watching for doleys?

    EyeWest:
...Si, I assume you know how to rig meters too.. cause I fear I am paying too much and that simply won't do!

I do know how to rig meters but there's no way in Hell I'm going to tell you how to do it... Other than leaving the chip pan on, it's one of the quickest ways to burn your house to the ground! You're right about one though... you ARE paying too much for your electricity - the trouble is, so are the rest of us!

    sue allen:
...looks around for the most inane posts.........

One of our customers worked as a meter reader after he was made redundant in his late fifties. He enjoyed it too - mind you I would'nt have fancied delving into some of the places he had to in some of the less solubrious areas he visited!

Don't worry Sue, you're not the culprit! Big Smile [:D]

Most of our meter readers are in their late forties or early fifties (some are near retirement age) and a few like me haven't even hit forty yet! Apart from having to put up with our inclement weather and one or two undesirable meter locations (we're offered hepatitis shots as a matter of course), it's a pretty good job and it's not badly paid either.

There's a certain degree of irony in all of this though... I got a phonecall from my boss a couple of hours after I hit the return key on my last post. It seems that I'm not going to be a meter reader for very much longer...

I got promoted today! Big Smile [:D]

Congratulations on your promotion!  Does this mean you're tied to a desk now though?

Nowt wrong with meter readers imho (sorry just spent a week in Sheffield!)

Lovely sunny day today -  not being at work that's nice - but forecast for the weekend rain rain and more rain....with two days photographing dog agility planned!

Do you ever get down to Surrey/Sussex ... my friend is Secretary of a dog club and I usually do their first aid at their shows.

    Re: What annoyed you today?

Moonlustie, my mate had his new Golf pranged just weeks after he took delivery.  The guy gave him his insurance details and the next day the guy phoned my mate to give him his address.  As it turned out, everything was a lie and my mate ended up having to pay for the repair, which fortunately didn't turn out too badly.  As you obviously had your camera, I hope you took a photograph of him and his car registration?  Good luck, but trust no one.Yes [Y]

    Hi Craig

First aid as in SJA but I'm with the other lot Whisper [:-*] and a private ambulance company.  For the dog shows I just do the first aid cover for my friend privately - although I have been known to clean wounds on animals too. Big Smile [:D]

It seems nobody uses the trains on a weekend... so there's no need for a direct service from Manchester to London.

I'm not going to rise to the bait - granted, we are very lucky to have the pension deal we have - we don't get many perks...

A rather nice Pentax 200mm f4 M lens went for £37 on ebay, less than half what they normally go for. Never happens when I'm actually in.

Oh yeah and the government is still insisting on sending people back to Zimbabwe...

Seeing ABERS in all his living alcoholic glory - unkempt and with eyes a worse shade of red than those of Dracula's. Devil [6]  Where? Take a look at his weekend competition entry but please be warned, make sure there are no children in the room first and turn down the brightness of your monitor which makes it only slightly less frightening. Big Smile [:D]
