    So do I - isn't it a real cracker - good to see such quality images making the front page too - and that post by gdallas - the gate - is simplistic but very well composed and somewhat eye catching too. Big Smile [:D]

    Errr ! No it was not, I think you will find it was 42, in answer to the question - What is 6 multiplied by 8? - thus proving that the Universe is fundamentally flawed.

    Re: Post your best here...

    Well maybe Douglas Adams got the answer wrong - as 2 x 17 = 34 - and thus the Universe is not fundementally flawed - it is sufficiently adequate - and perhaps, just perhaps - the only one that exists. Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

    Anyway the Adams Family have to be congratulated - Jon Adams, editor of that "other" magazine and his team were responsible for the development of this next image - the Universe is indeed a wonderful and extremely complicated entity. Cool [H]Beer [B]

    The answer to the question of the universe was 42.

    The question was later found to be: what do you get when you multiply 6 by 9....

    If you consider the multiplication in base 13, then you get 42 (= 54 in base 10, our conventional numbering base).

    Well Done Hugh, funnily enough I nearly mentioned that you would be along to correct the "Math's" in my post but didn't want to drag you in. You are quite right, it was 6 x 9 and not 6 x8, it took me most of the afternoon to track it down on youtube, the last time I saw this was when the series was originally transmitted on the BBC, back in the early eighties.

    Base 13 eh! It all makes perfect sense now???

    Cheers, Peter.

    Possibly the saddest part of this whole episode is that I didn't have to look it up...I remembered the numerology from the wholy scriptures... Embarrassed [:$]

    And yes, Craig, logs are how one converts between bases, and are fantastically useful. You just have to remember that they're the inverse function of an exponential/power function, i.e.

        y = x ^ log_x(y), or y = 10 ^ (log(y)).

    Anyway, back to the photos, one from today that I'm quite pleased with:

    Arithmetic was never my strong point - always better at Mathematics - maybe the reason why  my degree was in Physics - all those years ago - I knew changing Mr Adams'  answer to 34 would cause consternation in some parts - because by its very nature - "tongue in cheek" is for some - so hard to detect. Wink [;)]

    And before others try and jump on the bandwagon - see the following link :Wink [;)]Smile [:)]

    Good to see some more steam - not coming out anyone's ears on this occasion - that is indeed a fine image  you have posted there Hugh. Big Smile [:D]

    I've decided to set myself a little project, to show the mundane urban areas in a more interesting light.

    Only got three so far
