    Lens steaming up.

Ok so im a complete newbie when it comes to photography, my dad got me a D80 as my 21st birthday present but as of yet ive not had the time to really get to grips with it at all, im doing a physics degree and my last exam is tomorrow (Waves Optics and Acoustics oddly enough) and after that im sure ill have many more questions for you guys but for now this one has been bugging me.

I went to a weekend rave and I figured I would be able to get some interesting and memorable photos and possibly learn a bit more about my camera, however when I actually took my camera from my little chalet (the rave was in a butlins type thing) to the venue itself and started to take some photos I noticed my lens steamed up, like glasses.

I really should've seen it coming but it just didnt occur to me at the time, should I do something like warm up the lens before hand (if so how) or should I have just got there before it turned into a sweaty mess (being a rave it was stupidly hot and sweaty) so the lens wouldnt have gone from cold to hot and sweaty so quickly and not steamed up.

I know im probably asking a really stupid question but its been bugging me when I really should be revising so if anyone could give me any tips that would be awesome :)

No, nothing you could have done to prevent this in that place. Just need a cloth to wipe the lens when it steams up. In the normal course of events, it best to let the camera warm up or cool down, if going into a cold place. Big Smile [:D]

Errm not quite right. It`s when you take the body or lens into a warm/hot place it steams up. That includes inside and out of the camera/lens. It can lead to corrosion of metal parts.

    Simple answer.. Cat Crap!

No, not the stuff you find on your lawn, but the little tub of blue stuff you clean your lens with. Have a look on the net and you'll find it. I've had mine for about 15 years and it does the job.

Of course, it doesn't help with between the elements fog.

If you know the conditions are likely to steam up youe equipment put it into a self sealing freezer bag before you go in and dont take it out until it's had time to warm up. This is likely to be after at least 45 minutes.
