Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

    And another new boy!

I'm in my mid 40's and have only been thinking hard about photography for the last year or so. I'm deeply, very deeply unfashionable. I use a bridge camera, a Kodak P712. A what? Yes, I know - I've never heard of anyone else who uses one, or seen them advertised or reviewed anywhere. It's teaching me a lot though. It is rather slow to start up, but I'm learning to think ahead. As a bridge camera of course, I'm stuck with the onboard lens, but I do have a third party (half the price of the Kodak kit) tube with telephoto, macro and wide angle supplementaries. The tube also allows me to use filters.

I'm also out of the mainstream as far as software goes - I use Paintshop Pro Photo XI. I don't know why anyone pays five times the price for the other one. I haven't found anything in the mag that I can't acheive with it. I started with Paintshop years ago for painting from scratch - perhaps it's just a question of what you're familiar with.

I've started a gallery with a few shots from my learning curve, so you get the chance to judge for yourself. They aren't all perfect by  any means, but my feeling is that that's down to my abilities rather than the kit or software holding me back.

    Happy image making to all!

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

    Hello,

My name is Marcus and I'm from Utah in the U.S.  I just started reading this magazine because I'm pretty new to photography.  So far it's given me a lot of valuable information.

I bought my first SLR around a month ago and it's been keeping me busy.  I don't really have a photography background at all.  I've always been interested in it, but this is my first "real" camera.

    I bought a Canon XTi (400d)
My lenses are (I can't remember a lot of the f/stop numbers):
    Canon 18-55 mm kit lens
Canon 75-300 mm telephoto (Not the USM or IS, but would like that eventually)
Canon 50 mm 1.8 (I love this lens so far)
Tamron 28 - 200 mm (I just bought it this weekend to replace my kit lens)

I also have an assortment of filters and stuff (Neutral Density, Close Up, a polarizer...)

I'm really interested in shooting at night with long exposures.  My friend and I are always on the hunt for new places to set up to catch traffic or scenes with interesting colors and stuff.

I have a flickr account but I can't remember the URL right now.  My user name is: hypnoeyez99

So far I'm really loving my new hobby.  Maybe if I'm lucky it can lead to extra cash some day :)

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

    Hi all.

    I'm Kel,  from North Wales.

I'm 18 years old, and have been studying photography from a young age. For the last two years though, I have been mostly interested in horror/macabre photography. I enjoy doing portraits and using lots of theatre blood in my pieces. This doesn't stop me from exploring other genres of photography however, as I'm often getting bored and trying new things.

I mostly use a Pentax k100D Super, with my standard 18-55mm pentax lens, or Sigma 70-300mm.

I'm inspired by photographers such as John Santerineross and Thomas Van De Scheck. Both are very different from each other, but still incorporate a horror/fetish theme.

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions

Hi, I'm new here having found the site on the internet. My name is Danny and I live in the south of Holland.

I've just bought a Nikon D40 package which is the first DSLR I've ever had. I love the picture quality although the instruction book is only in Dutch! (I'm english).

As a complete novice I've a lot to learn and will be studying many articles.

My hobby is kitesurfing and I have wanted to learn proper photgraphy for a while.

The 55-200mm lens is the best one for getting kitesurf shots although I'm only using "Auto" due to total ignorance of DSLRs and the Dutch instructions!

I have to get better as I going to the UK for my parents golden wedding party and both of my brothers are already expert level SLR users and have been for years. The pressure is on to get, "up to speed" before August!

It's cloudy today so I'm going to try to find black & white by "looking at the pictures" in the Dutch instruction book.

    Hi Danny,

Welcome to the Forum, you might wan't to download this:

    http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40/users-guide/d40-users-guide.pdf

It's probably quicker than learning Dutch - I think.

    Cheers, Peter.
