    Day out in Notts

    Hello all,

I think this is possibly in the wrong place but would anybody in the nottingham/mansfield area like to get together for a bit of a group outing?  I often see "reader days" in the mags but never see them advertised anywhere beforehand.

I joined a local club a while ago for just this reason but it was not what i imagined it to be...

    Cheers

    Graeme

    Hi Graeme,

I could be enticed into a day out. Mrs is from Sutton, and in-laws all live there. I could drop her off and we could poss go off into the Peak District. (landscapes are my thing Smile [:)] )

    Re: Day out in Notts

Sounds like a plan Ian, Sundays are prob best for me as long as no Grand Prix or Sunderland match on TV!!! A trip over to the peaks would be great.  I want to have a bash at HDR so landscapes are best place to start.  I don't know the area too well so i'm open to locations.  Thought there might be afew more locals interested but apparently not.  Let me know when would suit you.

    Cheers

    Graeme

    Re: Day out in Notts

I'd meet up but would need to be near public transport. Me, KLockhart and Browndog have had a couple of meets in an around the Nottingham area, there's plenty of things to snap around and about the city if you fancy a bit of urban.

    Hi Graeme,

lets keep this open for a bit and see if any more want to jump in. My bro-in-law is a mountain bike/walker freak and knows the Peaks like the back of his hand, sure he'd be up for a day out as a guide!!

Come on, who else wants to play??

    Re: Day out in Notts

I'm away from Friday 18th April to Sunday 27th, but outside of those dates I'd love to join you all.

I'm live in Derby, have transport, and am happy to pick up any others within a reasonable distance, or any who can get to Derby/Nottingham/Chesterfield by train/coach.

    Lets play :-)

    Re: Day out in Notts

Nice to see a few more jumping aboard.  I agree with ian, lets let this run for a few more days and see how many more are interested.  I can pick up a couple if needed.  An urban spree would be good too!  ther is quite often a chunk in the mags but it is a bit dodgy going alone with camera.  Safety in numbers and all that.

    cheers all.

.............I could have a go at some urban stuff. Not something I've really tried before so would be good to get out of my comfort zone Embarrassed [:$]

    Re: Day out in Notts

I'd love to join anyone getting together for a meet in that area. Although I'm based in Gloucester, it's not a million miles away to get to Nottingham and I'd be really interested to meet some of the others from this forum.

I went to London the other week to take some piccies and meet some people from Photoping (although because one missed the train, another decided not to go!) still, I had a great day out with my husband.

My main interest is probably landscapes, but in London I tried some architectural / urban style pictures, which I'll post if I get the chance - they're not great, but then I usually find it really difficult to spot interesting pictures that I'm staring right at.

Where would people meet, and has a date been decided yet?

    Re: Day out in Notts

Just wondering if there had been any progress in planning a meet? How soon would people be looking to meet up? Where would be a good meeting point? How many people are now  interested?

A weekend would be best for me, but it would be interesting to see what others suggest.

    Re: Day out in Notts

Well, in terms of people who have so far shown an interest we have

    Graymee (Mansfield)
    Ian Webb (Grantham)
    veggiesosage (Nottingham)
    Browndog (Nottingham)
    tfrankland (Derby)
    Hayley Roberts (Gloucester)
    Stevey (South Yorks)

Sorry Craig was that interest or just commenting.

I reckon me and Browndog could talk klockhart into it too.

In terms of location it very much depends on what you fancy shooting. Like I say, we've got plenty of urban in Nottm itself, both Dark and White Peak are nearby, Newark's worth a look too especially if you like Civil War history, there's the Country Parks in Sherwood Forest like Clumber Park, Rufford and the forest itself, stately homes like Wollaton Hall (with deer) and Newstead Abbey withing a few miles of the city, the Great Central Railway at Loughborough, the list goes on and on (they should pay me for this stuff).

Transport issues; Nottm's one way is a bit confusing for newcomers, anybody who takes a car and manages to park it in the Peak District at a weekend is either clinically insane or deserves an award for bravery, probably both but everything else is probably pretty much ok for car drivers. Its worth noting though that most places above are pretty easy to get to on the train or bus, very relevant if you're into a post shoot tipple...Wink [;)]

Hope thats moved the idea on a bit and given you all some food for thought.

Storm [st] Re: Day out in Notts

Thanks for a brilliant summary Veggie. Big Smile [:D]

With regards to shooting, for me it really depends on the weather. I prefer landscapes if the weather's great, but I'd also like to improve my urban shots, so I really don't mind. I just need a bit of guidance when it comes to urban styles, as to what makes a good picture.

I'd probably drive as it's more convenient and if plans change it's easier to accommodate, however the post shoot tipple does sound like a brilliant idea....Beer [B]

When I agreed to meet some people from another forum for a day in London, nobody turned up! (due to last minute work committments / missing the train etc). This wasn't a problem as I was with my husband but I wouldn't have wanted to spend the day in London on my own. Therefore, I'd really need to be sure that at least some people would definitely be there before I leave!

I'm looking forward to it though, all we need to do now is arrange a date....How's about Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th May?
