Don't know what your moaning about - the weather for Sunday 11th May looks lovely and sunny and about 19 degrees - it of course has plenty of time to change!

Sorry didn't mean to imply you were actually moaning, was only pulling your leg - I did think that maybe you had got your Sunday's mixed up when I looked at met check this Sunday is raining (which is bad as I'm going to a BBQ) and next Sunday is sunny!

    Re: Day out in Notts

Don't get a lot of it down here either - Notts is fantastic for architecture in my opinion, however there is lots of it mixed in with other eras so the main square has a good mix of old and new, the lace market area is all fairly old (apart from the new arts centre they are building where they supposedly took their inspiration from the 18th century buildings around - so they come up with a concrete block!) And also down by the castle and the Trip to Jerusalem lots of old weird shaped buildings. Hopefully something for everyone!

    Re: Day out in Notts

I agree with Julescs Nottingham has a mixture of very old and new with some good photographic opportunities. Indoor shooting will depend on how many turn up but we could probably look at The Trip ( the oldest pub in England),Smile [:)] brew house yard  and The Castel and maybe some indoor shots in the cathedral.  The Nottingham members should probably plan an itinerary so we  can manage to fit in Nottingham highlights .

What kind of thing do you all wont to shoot ?

Bill:  Hello form Sunny but slightly cool Nottingham.  We can arrange to meet you off your train from the north, I will PM with mobile numbers nearer the time if that would help.

    Cheers

    Re: Day out in Notts

    Itinerary idea:-

    •    Meet at 10am in Market Square by the Council building lions.
    •    Pictures in the square - (personally would like to get some of the new fountains if they are turned on)
    •    Up into Hockley area,
    •    Lace Market - Bill will be able to find us quite easily from the train station if we are here.
    •    Canal side has been suggested to me especially near the Canal house pub (with possible/probable drink stop?)
    •    Castle and Old Trip area
    •    Any where else people want to go?

What are your thoughts Nottingham peeps?

    Re: Day out in Notts

It sounds great, couple of questions.

Is it all walking distance if so how many miles? Or do we take public transport if so how much money, or is it planned to take our cars from location to location? (I am from the countryside and driving in a busy place like Nottingham to unknown locations will sort of put me off)

What do you recommend to park your car near the council building?

Sorry for the questions, but my friend who is hopefully coming with me, a known regular on this site, is to put it nicely passed retirement age. Walking is not much of a problem, but stairs etc are out.

We both do look forward to the meet though.

    Re: Day out in Notts

It is all walking distance - no stairs that I can think of but a few hills - I'm sure we can stop and rest at a few pubs along the way! Oh there are steps down at the canal side but there is a way round doing that too - was thinking we can get some photos from outside the court buildings in which case that is some gentle steps down to it but then there is a bridge over to the other side and I can't remember if that has ramp access or not - but its not a long walk round via the road anyway!

Parking wise - where are you coming from - if you're coming from the Motorway your best bet is coming off at jn26 and heading to the park and ride site either at Phoenix park or at Wilkinson street - see http://www.thetram.net for more info. The the tram will bring you right into Market Square for the council building. I think ticket prices are on there otherwise its now £2.70 for an all day ticket and that includes your car parking. Might be cheaper for passed retirement age - in fact don't they travel free now? If you're coming from the other side of Nottingham then I don't know maybe someone can help out with that? However parking in the city centre is expensive especially all day.

Anything else just ask, look forward to meeting you on the 11th!

    Re: Day out in Notts

If we want church pics I think St Mary's in the Lace Market is nicer than the cathedral. Obviously, being Sunday there could well be services going on. Also we should do the Tax Offices, quick word with security and they're normally happy for you to have a wander round snapping away. Both of those are on Jules' suggested itinerary more or less so we can make it up as we go along.

The Castle costs £3.50 to get in but is worth it for the views and it includes admission to the Brewhouse yard museum down the road too.

    Re: Day out in Notts

HERE is a link to the City Council's parking page wich in turn has links to maps to the main car parks and also to the various park asnd rides. I'd recommend the latter in all honesty, not only is it much easier its also the cheapest all day parking you'll find. Some are served by the tram, others by bus.

    Re: Day out in Notts

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone now. Just hoping the weather stays good. I've convinced my husband to come with me (with the promise of various pub stops during the day!). My original plan was for him to drive back, but somehow I don't think that'll be the case. Beer [B] Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the parking info Veggie and the suggested itinerary Julescs.

Note: Just had a quick look at the park and ride bit of the site - Racecourse and Queens Drive P&R don't operate on Sundays, just in case anyone was planning to park at either of these two.

    See you on the 11th.
