I must have the memory span of a goldfish!!!!!  How could I have overlooked the likes of Satriani, Malmsteen and Vai, whose playing on Dave Lee Roth's album ''Eat 'Em And Smile'' was God-Like. Do you remember his cameo role as the devil's guitarist in the film Crossroads with Ralph (Karate Kid ) Macchio as the young upstart?

... and how Vai had to do the guitar closeups for old "Wax on, wipe off"? Smile [:)]

But, if we're talking guitarists, add Dave Gilmour, Eddie Van Halen and Angus Young to the list.

was'nt into Sky...but Herbie Flowers was / is one of the best bass players of all time.

Sky was made up of some of the finest session musicians on the planet at the time, including John Williams and released about 4 or5 albums (memory playing up again).

Their version of Bach's ''Toccata'' was so unusual at the time.

Blimey!! And I thought that it was just me that had all that clobber still in the loft LOL

I think that Dave Gilmour is amazing, I am huge fan of his solo stuff as well as Pink Floyd.

Jeff Beck could also be added to that list, as could Brian May.

However, moving off track slighty, has anyone ever heard Ozric Tentacles?  There's another band that I'd add to my list Smile [:)]

    Cheers

Good grief, how could you think you were alone in keeping some of the finest stood coolly at the bar gear ever?!! Much better than chinos, boating shoes and a lack of socks! (Miami Vice has a lot to answer for). Still got my denim jacket cut-off as well.

Ozric Tentacles does ring some bells I thought I'd lost years ago. Can you refresh my memory on that one?

Take a look on You Tube. Some amazing music videos have been posted on there. You'd be surprised at what you can find. Just search the artist name under the music category.

LOL, I was a bit different from you, I was still at school then (I was the only one in Tiree High School - it's an island on the west coast of Scotland if anyone wants to know - with a mullet and cowboy boots LOL) and uni afterwards Smile [:)]

The Ozrics are a bit rock tantric ish.  Strangetude is probably their best album, in my opinion.  Have a look here.

I've been on You Tube a lot recently, though mostly looking for videos of Minis Big Smile [:D]

Another good artist is Craig Armstrong.  If you like the music they use on Top Gear he's one of the artists.  Rob Dougan is another one they use.

    Re: The Greatest....

Queen has done some legendary songs and have done their contribution to music but i do agree they could of done better.

One man that i am really into at the moment is David Gilmour in concert - Royal Festival Hall 2002. Even though his voice has deteriated a lot and can't really hit the notes but is still sensational.
