    chris@seary.com:

how about fingerprint recognition on the shutter button.

NO! NO! NO! you obviously haven't been paying attention to what Forseti has been saying Chris. Buttons are OUT - Finished, Finito.

Not the future but what I would like to see in the furure - a Full Frame digital camera (18mpx) with a clear pentaprism finder with either split image or microprism focusing, built in semi automatic exposure control. 15 seconds - 1/4000 shutter speeds, 50mm f1.4 lens, Raw/jpg and an 8gb card. Big buffer for rapid fire at 5FPS for about 40 frames. Lens mount ? probably Pentax "K".
    Price About £750

Just a dream - no one will ever make it.....

...sounds like something one of the "lesser" brands might be interested in.  Perhaps you should contact Samsung... Zip it! [:#]

I don't think voice recognition is a good way forward.  I know the shutter is pretty noisy on the D3 but can you imagine Jonathan shouting at his camera during a wedding!  And then everyone with their camera phones starting to shout "take photo".  No, sorry, that's not something I'd like to see in the future.

Something that could be done with current technology (I've seen it in other devices) is live uploads.  Take the picture and it is automatically (by Wi-fi) sent to your personal server.  No more memory cards or worrying about lost images.  No good in the middle of Africa or teh summit of Everest perhaps, but we wouldn't have to tell people that "of course it'll work, we have 99.9% coverage".

Er! Don't Canon already have this - 1Ds MkIII Wireless File Transmitter?

Also available for the 40D (maybe others?)

The Canon Wireless File Transmitter E3(A), or WFT-E3(A) for short, equips the EOS 40D digital SLR with Wifi capabilities, allowing you to transfer images wirelessly to a computer or even direct to a website or ftp server. The Wifi also lets you wirelessly remote control the camera, including a live preview of the scene on your computer monitor. You can even remote-trigger the camera from a website. ...........now this last bit is something I really like

How about some type of head up display, which automatically focuses the camera using your eyes, and takes the shot. How many times have we missed a shot, because we haven't been quick enough to get the camera upto our eyes to take a picture, before the moment has gone. Big Smile [:D]

Re: I have seen the future......

OldBoy - you've been reading my mind again. I was dreaming along these lines in bed last night which leads me to the conclusion that I need another break from the forum Sad [:(]. In my dream I was trying to picture how that head up display visor that Tom Cruise was wearing in Topgun would fit either onto my selection of baseball caps or alternatively an Australian bush hat when I'm out in the mountains. The dangling corks would have to go of course but that would be a small price to pay. I couldn't quite get a clear image when it came to having one fitted to my Bowler hat and it was at that point that I woke up. Me and the other half are off into the mountains for 3 days tomorrow so hopefully the fresh air will do me some good. Big Smile [:D]

For those landscape buffs amongst us, how about automatic hyperfocal focussing?  Seems to me they don't want to put the markers on modern zooms, so why not read f stop and focal length to give a one click/push/dial button/knob to do the hard work for us.

sorry if this has been said before but did any see the gadget show where they created that camera ?

it had like a pull out viewfinder, was tubular shaped and projected the images onto a wall.

    ???

Surely a adaptation from military target acquisition visors; just trying to work out where one is to carry the (gymbal-mounted) camera - we'll probably end up looking like a Predator (film alien, not USAF RPV)

I'm sure the EOS350D had that...

I was thinking about writing to Nikon and telling them to do the same thing, or maybe just a firmware patch that made my D200's FNC button do it...

It'd be so much easier then having to remember the distances for each F stop at each inclination of zoom...

Anybody good at coding here? Big Smile [:D]

Re: I have seen the future......

No, I'm afraid that for the most part voice recognition wont work. For a start once you know your camera, it's intuitive to use the buttons, and as matt said, voice recognition increases the chance of error and makes you feel like a prat.

Can you just imagine a wildlife photographer following an animal and is finally close enough only to shout at his camera "FOCUS" then "SHOOT"

Damn, why did the deer run away?

Re: I have seen the future......

I'm waiting for Microsoft to enter the market - then you can easily identify what camera you want just like you identify windows -the pro version or the home version. It will require three buttons to delete an image (ctrl+alt+del) and offer you a paper clip with a lengthy wizard to help you get the perfect shot... "I see you are trying to takea picture..." It will contain a blue screen of death just to make sure you miss that ultimate picture or lose a whole days worth of photography and it will require you to connect to the internet everyday to download the latest updates that you don't want but will ensure your battery is half empty before you've left the house. Oh, and finally, it will come with a file system that ignores all card space over the first 2gb even if you do have a 50mp sensor!

Of course, as has been said, this will be in response to the iDSLR & iCompact released byApple a year before. Both models which will work flawlessly so long as you accept a single bindng contract that requires you to use iEverything to process your images and then iHosting to shares you images on line!
