Unfortunately we have a very flawed democracy! The rise of the LibDems means we'll always have minority government I suppose. I'd settle for being governed by an english parliament rather than a combination of Scotland and Europe [ducks quickly!].

I get my electricity and gas from national power. thinking that I might get it cheaper went on to  u switch put in all my details and it said I would save 2 hundred pounds by going to se gas,as I was ripped off by se gas before I was reluctent to change to them so I entered the same bills as before but said I was with se gasthey then said I would save 3 hundred pounds switching to national power I rang u switch and told a woman what happend she had no answer and sounded completely uninterested so my advice keep away from u switch they probably get a commision from whoever you change to.

I don't think it's ever worth swapping - the one you're with puts up its prices so you swap, and then the company you've swapped to puts their prices up and the company you left puts theirs down again. And what about all those car insurance companies - they can't all be cheaper than the others!

What on earth is the UK market for sofa's, it must be phenominal. Every other advert is for half price deals with nothing to pay for for lord knows when.

I like the crafty one that says save 50%, and if you look at the small print it states the price you pay, say £400, is the price that exists at the moment, but "after the event" the price will be £800. So, does the event ever end? What you've really bought is a sofa worth £400, and as we all know nothing is worth what you pay for it, otherwise everyone will go out of business!

It all a big con! The gas and electricity come down the same pipes/cables regardless of which company you use. How many times in the last four years have you seen someone to read your gas/electric meter? So, no meter readers equal saving money for them but not for you. They try to persuade you to use direct debits as it saves them money so they pass a bit onto you. The best bit with DD is they can increase them inline with their estimate of the gas/electric you have used, which for some strange reason always exceeds what you use. Great, as now they earn lots of interest on your money, so the boss can have a high salary and bonus plus a great inflation-busting pension. It's always said in business, that you can get things cheaper when you cut out the middleman, with the power companies this has been reversed, and we are all the losers. Oh! Except the people who introduced it. Bloody MP's, who when retried/rejected by voters will have a nice seat on the board. Super Angry [8o|]

Re: The grumpy old gits thread......

I refuse to pay by direct debit ever since I had problems with British Gas overestimating. I read my meters every 3 months and send the readings on line - that way I only pay for what I've used.

Just been speaking to an old [in both senses] friend on the phone. She's over 80 but still very active - owns three Pointers so she needs to be. A few months ago she had terrible acute pain and ended up in A and E - after hours on a trolley gallstones were eventually diagnosed. Although she lives over the border in the next county she was called for initial treatment at our local hospital. Not very nice for an elderly lady to find herself in a mixed ward - just a curtain between her and a man who kept wetting himself! I thought this poxy government were stopping that sort of thing. What's frightening from her experiences there, is that with all the vast expansion of housing in this area we're to have no new hospital - it can't cope now so god knows what the future holds! My friend was called back in but refused to go - hopefully the money will somehow be found to go privately - sad indictment of the system.

That £400 pound sofa only costs £300, but because they tell you it's £800 but reduced to £400 so you think you are getting a bargain. Further down the small print it will say something like, 'It only needs to be sold at the higher price, £800, at one store in the previous 28 days. With 200 plus stores it's not a problem to do this. Sad [:(]

This way of doing it let's them off the 28 day provision. What they are saying is if you don't buy it today it will be twice as dear "at the end of the event", thus implying 50% off.

Re: The grumpy old gits thread......

I had a  "Road to Damascus" revelation yesterday, well I wasn't actually on my way to Damascus, just the garden centre, when I suddenly realised why I get grumpy. I was listening to Lord "Squeaky Clean"Levy promoting his book and the Cash for Peerages and his part in the enquiry was being discussed.

Now we all have view as to whether  peerages were bought or not, and the fact that people who made loans to the Labour party ended up in the upper chamber was really just a coincidence, the fickle finger of fate

We all know that there are some dubious practises undertaken by all those that govern us, and whilst we complain about it, we all know in our heart of hearts that there's sod all we can do. I realised that that is not what makes me grumpy. It's the fact that all these greasy pole climbers think that Joe Public is so gullible that we swallow their pathetic reasoning as to why we should accept that nothing is rotten in the upper echelons of power.

That's what makes me grumpy. Super Angry [8o|]

I heard Lord Levy being interviewed-what a nice man he seemed. I am now off to the Labour Party website to join up. Gullible? Not me!
