Today whilst out taking photos, I found a bunch of car keys on the ground, just past the farm and visitor centre. So, like a good boy pick them up and handed them in at reception. On the way back saw a old man and middle age chap and overheard them talking about losing something. Asked the old man what he lost, and he answered some car keys. Asked what type of car and he answered Laguna. I them told him I had just handed them into reception and he replied, "I don't believe you", and walked past me.

I stood there for a few seconds dumbstruck. I shouted to the younger man and told him and where I'd found them, and he patted me on the back and said thanks, and said to the older man they are in reception. The older man walked past me and didn't even say thanks.

 

 

I received a mouldy sandwich from a vending machine at work the other day and decided to phone the company to let them know. When the owner arrived he all but accused me of sabotaging his machine (although he did readily offer reimbursement thus indicating his acceptance of guilt)…. Next time it’s the environmental folk I shall ring; if indeed I every become needy enough to venture near one of his machines)

 

Speaking of computers I was messing around with this image for the black and white thread, when I was overcome with Python-esque nostalgia, for trials and tribulations of chemical processing and the physical negative, black and white only of course.



You tell the kids of today that & they won't believe you

Why do people post multiple images of the same subject asking "which one do you prefer?". Do they not have the courage of their convictions.

I've yet to read any comment that says "In my opinion this picture is total rubbish and should be consigned to the recycle bin".

I know criticism should be constructive and when we all start out on our photographic adventure any negative remarks could finish us for life, but sometimes surely the truth must be told.

Are we all swimming in a pool of mediocrity because we are all afraid, me included, to criticise and say what we feel about an image in case the feelings of its author may be hurt?

I suppose comments that are positive are an indication that the picture has some merit, so conversely no comments mean the reverse.

Are we doing them a disservice by not opening their eyes to their shortcomings?

I'm with you on this one - even more of a problem is the wouldbe Pro who says something like " I've only done weddings so far - I've been asked to do portraits and would like some advice from you lot"
I always want to say "Learn the job before you start taking commissions and then stick to what you know"
I think we worry too much about peoples feelings and end up giving less help than they really need.

For me personally, I only post one pic but as a newbie I would love to know whether those with more experience/expertise consider my pictures absolute rubbish or explain to me where they perceive I have not produced an excellent picture.  At the moment I am seeing something that attracts me and take the picture with a smattering of composition rules thrown in - is this the right thing to do even?

I often don't comment on other peoples pictures because I don't have the technical knowledge to comment - some people explain how something could be improved and I am totally lost, to my amateur eye it looks fine and then someone talks about what they could do with photoshop and I'm afraid it goes over my head, not just the technique of achieving what they are speaking of but the actual effect they are suggesting.

Please if anyone has any comments on my pictures, good or bad I would love to know as I'm not sure if my photography is improving or not.

Well there's always one nasty git.

On one hand I can see where you are coming from but surely it depends on the recipient.  If someone said that to me, I would say to myself OK, it's a rubbish pictue I need to learn and I would go back to the person who made the comment and ask them to explain to me in detail what I did wrong and how I could improve it.

Perhaps if I was more experienced/had some years of expertise, I might have a different attitude.

Hi,

It depends on what you mean by negative comments, it's perfectly within the rules to say that you don't like an image so long as you give reasons / suggest improvements and are courteous. The rules are designed to stop people from just making offensive comments for no good reason.
