Attention-seeking shop managers.
Todays little escapade involved a three-till shop, and a manager who either made assumptions or just lied to get attention.
"Yes, the problem is with all the tills. It's been happening all day."
'So, which till can I take over, to see what's going on?'
"The third till. We haven't used it all day"
'How do you know if the third till is faulty, if you've not used it today?'
"Well, the other two tills have the problem, so the third one must"
'But the first till has no problem, I checked up before speaking to you.'
"Oh"
'I also checked the third till, I can't find a fault on that either'
"... so..."
'... so that leaves the second till. Can I take that one over?'
"Well, we're busy using that one at the moment"
'I can't fix it if you're using it'
"Oh"
'So, when do you want me to call back, so I can check it over and fix it?'
"Well... the second till's working ok at the moment. We'll contact you if it goes wrong again"
The analysis? No fault found, site was a time-waster, chargeable call.
