I like to use high contrast with the channel mixer when converting to B+W

andy...love the perspective in the pier shot.

And another corker from the House of Alan...wonderful silhoettes and contrast...its a terrific spot, haven't been there for years.

while I'm here and waffling...there's a great spot about ten / fifteen mins drive away...The Rydale Folk Musuem in Hutton-le-Hole. loads of old architecture / renovated barns and farm equipment / machinery...a pretty good glimpse into rural living in days gone by. even a little hut they used to imprison witches in.

Taken this weekend.  It's the old Towcester Town Football Club that has (clearly) fallen into dissrepair.  Made a great subject.

Re: B & W in recognition of this month's DCMag

Saw this book in our local shop this morning and following a quick flip through it seems quite impressive. Will now have something to mull over for the rest of the morning whilst doing the ironing  Big Smile [:D] and might just have to pop down town again this afternoon .............. for washing powder. Surprise [:O]

Oh yes, the book: "Black and White in Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Lightroom: Create Stunning Monochromatic Images In Photoshop CS3, Photoshop and Beyond' by Leslie Alsheimer. I found this Synopsis on Amazon (you'll have to scroll down the page a bit). http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-White-Photoshop-Lightroom-Monochromatic/dp/024052084X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1215589932&sr=8-1 There is a link underneath the thumbnail of the book to view some of what's inside, particularly the contents pages.

Had a look Alan, I'll "browse" it in Waterstones next time I'm in town. I had a book for Xmas, B+W Photography in the Digital Age, ISBN-10 0-7153-2562-0. Some useful tips in there.

Don't forgret you Mono-maniacs, Black and White Photograpghy mag are running their B+W Photographer of the Year competition. Entries close 29th August 2008.

Edit - clashes horribly with this 'green' underneath which will have to go. Wink [;)]

Re: B & W in recognition of this month's DCMag

Lovely teeth!! What do you mean by lovely teeth? I had expected something along the lines of 'why dear Alan, I do trust that this image has been entered for POTY, and if not, why not. The conversion to B+W has not only been done with flair and imagination but with a skill that defies the boundaries of this forum - and that's even before we mention subsequent editing'. Now then, isn't that what you really meant to say? Lovely teeth my foot (PC rules forbid first choice of word). Wink [;)]

Edit: I purchased the book mentioned earlier today. 'Then read it' he say's. Big Smile [:D]
