I'm new here and this is my first time posting. I'd appreciate some critical analysis of my work. I love taking photographs but need to learn about the technical side of things.

This is one of my recent b&w shots. All opinion gratefully received.

Hi Jejum and welcome to the forum. Good shot for a first post. Like the expression and bubbles. Exposure and light seem good too and you've done a good conversion to B/W.  To improve the shot I'd keep an eye on your background as this would look so much better with a plain background. The lines cutting through her face and bubbles detracts. Also if I was really fussy I'd have liked to see her eyes open a little more, though with kiddies you have to take what you can get.

    Overall a lovely shot.

Revisited this shot from the RAW file to get a better version. Also added some grain for mood.

It was worth the revisit - a great black and white conversion - full of great contrast there Dave. Smile [:)]

If the first one is CONTRE JOUR - the 2nd must be CONTRE NUIT !?!?!?!!?Wink [;)]

Both shots of the same tree - taken on the same day moments apart - but from differing viewpoints - the way you handle the light is so important - is it not !?!?!Cool [H]

Moonraker, that shot's great. Whereabouts in North Wales was it taken?

I was in Porthmadog in February this year & couldn't believe how good the weather was. Took this on the way out of the harbour.

Thanks Mark, great atmospheric shot you've got there too. The lighthouse is at Llanddwyn Island on Anglesea, I reckon another time if I'm there I'll make sure I'm on the island around sunset or sunrise, there are lots of great micro locations for photography on the island like the lighthouse, some little cottages, memorials, a runined church, the view across to Snowdonia, great beaches etc.
