Great photo and the contrast between the grey and brown work well. Good spot and composition. Big Smile [:D]

Re: STREET LIFE - Post your street life work here

    Hello All,

    Great photo BTW,

Just thought i d poke my head in and have a look and lend my support to this very fine art. This forum i have to say is my favourite. There is some superb photos here. Like everyone here i have a massive interest in street photography. Im in awe at what people can photograph through the lens! I would love to get out on that street and take a few shots.... I just dont have the confidence at the moment!!!!!! My Virgin D80 hasnt seen anything more than two weddings and pictures of my living room!! And ive had it for a year now! LOL!! In the meantime ill happily browse this forum!

    Regards
    Stu

PS just a quick question, is it better to shoot in colour and then change the image to B&W or shoot the image in B&W?? Many thanks!

Re: STREET LIFE - Post your street life work here

    Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. Enjoyed looking at the photos in this topic and may post a few of mine at some when. I really like black and white photos for street photography but colour has it place as well, it all depends on the content some work B&W other are better kept as colour.

Pervert or terroist ? I understand how some people feel about taking photos of random people, I am getting more confident myself, its funny the looks you get when taking a picture of a litter bin or a window to get a reflection.

    Cheers

Re: STREET LIFE - Post your street life work here

I too am new to this site and this forum.

I also love taking street life shots but have yet to pluck the courage up to approach people and ask to shoot them. Consequently most of my shots are taken with my 70-200 fairly surreptiously.

I have just purchased an 85mm 1.8 and hope this fixed, shorter focal length will force me to get closer to people.

Here's a few of my street shots.

Hi Debz, welcome to newbie street.

That's a great capture, the girl just loving life, the proud father smiling and the onlooker witnessing it all.

A great slice of life captured.

Re: STREET LIFE - Post your street life work here

I'm still amazed just how popular this thread really is! It's definately my favourite and I must admit that I check it every day. Some great talent floating around.

I'm guessing that this is an area you'd like to see more of in the mag?

What about training courses for this type of photography? Are there any knocking around? Would people be interested in paying to learn the art of street photography? It's a free playground after all!

I guess I should contribute with an image now to keep this thread visual. This one was snapped while on a completely different assignment in Trafalgar Square (part of the Law Feature I wrote). A good street photographer will be able to read a situation even before it happens. Spotting a high-heeled fur coat clad woman on a freezing February morning in Trafalgar Square should ring alarm bells that she's about to get her kit off for a quick publicity stunt! A fast change of lenses and anticipation of where she would drop the fur and jiggle her bits so I could get in front was vital for the shot.

    Shame about the XFM tassles!!!

    Cheers

Another newbie on the site.  Thought i would post this pictre i took last week at the racecourse.  I prefer turning the camera on the crowd, as there are already too many on the horses.

    Hi Mike,

I like the bokeh horses, it really lets you know where the shot is taken and gives you an idea of what he is looking at. I find the head of the child a little distracting as it draws your eye to the corner.

It's a bit unfair of XFM advertising their breakfast show like that!

With my cholesterol level as it is, I've got to stay off the fried eggs.
