    Lenses for airshow

Off to Fairford for the airshow next weekend.  Any recommendations on lenses.

The longest I've got is the Tamron 55-200.  Will I be left feeling a little inadequate due to lack of length (oo-er!!) or would this do the job?

Not been to one before so not sure what's the best options.

If all else fails any recommendations on where to hire a lens from?

    Whats your budget chap?
It was when she said 'put the camera down and come to bed' that I knew I'd finally gone too far.

Hi Martin, if you're shooting with a Nikon (which I think you are?) then I have a 300mm f/4 that you could borrow if you think that would do the job.

I'm going to be away for 2 weeks so won't be needing it.  Depending where you are and if you want to stump up for shipping charges and a few Guinnesses Smile [:)].  Only deal would be if you break it you pay obviously Smile [:)] I'll need to know before Monday morning though.

    Cheers, Martin

Martin, many thanks for the generous offer. I'm actually a Canon man myself.

I tried a rental company today but was told that it's peak airshow time so all of the longer lenses are booked up. I think it's going to be fingers crossed that the 200mm wil be long enough - if not maybe I'll just sit back and enjoy the show!!

Depends what you're shooting. I got some good shots of the red arrows at RIAT last year with my 18-70, but then they fly over my back garden. For the big, fast jets (flown by the Thunderbirds) my 70-300 wasn't quite long enough.

You should get some good stuff with the 55-200, especialy the red arrows.

Canon 70-200 F2.8 with a 2x converter should get you close enough!
