    Judges

Has a panel of judges been appointed yet, and if so who are they?

Still no news on the judges then?

Perhaps there might be the courtesy of a reply this time.

    Suspense? Or apathy?

Let's just suppose we knew exactly who the judges are.

Precisely what difference would that make?Confused [8-)]

    Re: Judges

I simply asked the question since most photographic competitions announce who the judges will be at the launch of the competition.

Who is on the panel of judges reflects the importance that the organisers place on the competition. It also gives the entrants an idea of what level of expertise the judges have.

I would think that judges with a proven photographic pedigree would be essential, totally independent of the organiser's remit and commercial interests.

Somebody like a minor celebrity "who likes looking at pictures" for example, doesn't fill one with confidence. Not that that's the case in this instance, but we don't yet know with only a few weeks to the closing date.

    Re: Judges

Another good reason is that some Photographers do a little research into the judging panel, learn a little about their particular likes and dislikes etc and shoot/construct an image to play up to those likes. It happens an awful lot in all walks of lives - especially job interviews.

Alan - I think you're bashing your head against the wall here - expecting some sort of response that is. Remember the legal thread? All started off with a flurry and then business as usual i.e. nothing. There's more life in a graveyard that at DCM I think sometimes.

I've been watching this thread with some interest for a little while now, and I can't believe that at least one of the moderators, or somebody from the mag hasn't at least acknowledged the question - how rude is that!!!!!  Maybe somebody should throw a few expletives in,  that might do the trick!!!

    Nail. Head. Hit.

To be fair, the moederators probably wouldn't be able to offer anything other than their opinion, as they are effectively users of the forum who are prepared to give up their time to moderate the forum, and would therefore have no "inside knowledge" as it were to offer.

The magazine staff, well that's an entirely different sotry all together. Other questions have been raised by entrants in this very forum. They have been ignored for large periods of time. And then they have been deleted from the forum. Hardly condusive to a welcoming competition is it?

    Re: Judges

My apologies to the moderators.  My only thought about them was that they may have a little sway in getting the DCM Team to maybe have a look at a thread which has some relevance to them and the competition which is being run in the mag (with VERY large sums of $$$$$ up for grabs).

All I know is what I read in section 7 of the rules,  So I know as much as you guys. Wink [;)]

    "7. Judging
Future will appoint an independent judging panel to determine the short-listed entries and winners in each category. The decision of the judges in determining the short-list and deciding the winners in each category is final and Future will not enter into any correspondence regarding the judging or organisation of the competition."

    Re: Judges

I wouldn't get any benefit from knowing, but it would be interesting to know a little more about the judging.

I mean, for the short listing, do peoples votes that are already attributed to the photograph by fellow readers taken in to great consideration, or are they just little guide lines of public opinion....

Wrinkly old men for the win! (again) haha :P It's probably judged by wrinkly old women! "Ooo er, what a stud!"
