Very hard subject this guy was.Its the white patches on its wings..i was under exposing by 2 stops and the white bits where still being blown out..I took about 70 or so shots of this guy and ended up keeping 4 images.Im really picky about the composition of my images.I’ll delete images that are close to being the same, or if a photo is even slightly off i will delate it.

Im not sure if it had just hatched but it was chilled..even walked on to my hand at 1 point.

 

The 1st shot was taken with canons 60mm macro lens..Then after i took a body shot i chanaged lens to the MPE-65.Shost are around 3:1 and 4:1 life size at f/11.hand held

I held the leaf the moth was on with my left hand,i then could rest the lens on my left thumb,doing it this way i can get sharp shots when its very windy.i nicked the trick from brian and dalantech.

I reckon there is super glue on the twig and the the moth or bee lands on it and then it can't fly away - how else does the insect stay there long enough to take the photos?

They are very good photos though!

If you don't you know the difference between a moth or a bee, how can you tell how the image was taken ? FYI this is a moth

Super glue, the problem is you don't know whether to take these guys seriousley or not. If they are kidding a smiley face always helps to ensure people know your just messing about, otherwise you just think (    )

i dont think there joking.You would have to be so selfish to glue the insects to get a good shot.if i had to do that every time i shot insects i would give up the hobbie.only thing i use to shoot them is skill ;)

i heard that some people catch the insects and then stick them in the fridge for abit or freezer then take them out to shoot and defrost.

Hi Craig, I think that would be very heartless too, that's not the way to reward the insect for allowing their image to be used, it may be tiny but its a life.

Hi Bob,

But atleast they can move once they have warmed up, if they havn't freezed to death. But must take a while to catch them.

I still think its best to go out into the wild and take the pic of them there though.
