Just managed to get a hold of a 55mm Micro-nikor f2.8 off ebay for $84.

It's my first fully manual lens and although at the start it is a bit of a faf with the manual focusing and aperture ring I'm glad I persevered.  The crispness and colour rendition on this lens is incredible and to be honest it blew me away.

Might go and see what other 'oldies' are kicking about to see if I can get another bargain.
Does anyone else have any other old manual lenses that they sware by?

it may be a bit big for what you want but i sware by my Tamron sp 60B 300mm 2.8 its brilliant and when you get used to the manual focus properly its actuly sharper than then nikon 300mm 2.8 af-s in my own opinion. and you can buy them for around 500-600 pounds so half the price of a nikon/canon auto focus lensof this type . Does anyone else have any other old manual lenses that they sware by?

I love the 1938 uncoated 3.5cm Leica Elmar in my collection, along with the 1964 Kiev mount 50mm Jupiter 8M lens. However, sadly they aren't compatible with the 350D, and I'm not just talking about lens mounts either.

There are bargains available all over the place, I purchased my pentax bodies because I had many old lenses and I recently bought a  pentax MZ-50 with 2 auto focus zoom lenses for £60 from a second hand shop.
Favourite lens Tamron 350mm f5.6 mirror lens, very shallow depth of field produces interesting macro shots as well.

Often wondered how well a mirror lens works with a digital camera, as they are not mention much in that regard.

I've got Pentax M 50mm f/1.4 and 100mm f/2.8. I haven't used either much but I'm very happy with the quality of what I have done. I've also got a Sigma 600mm mirror lens which I only bought to take pics of the moon with which it does very well, will have to give it a try on some wildlife at some point. My latest buy is a Pentax A 70-210mm f/4 constant aperture. Has auto aperture but still manual focus and its lovely. Excellent wide open too (although can't say the same about that 50mm f/1.4).

I do need to work on my manual focusing skills tho.

I've got 2 bodies an ist dl and a K10D, the istdl I use the sports setting to maitain the fastest shutterspeed using the iso number to keep it fast enough to aviod camera shake. The  K10D takes care of this using the Iso priorty setting, always using a monopod.
My latest aquisition offers me other creative opportinities especially when the action is comming at me luckily its auto focus and allows me to concentrate solely on zoom as I have to dop the long lens and pick up the shorter zoom, (Vivitar 28-210 f4 zoom).



A bit more' motor sporty' I think, I love the motion on the block but I've never found a crop I like more than the original, yet .
