'vertical format resulting in "Weird" Perspective.' ?? Just to see if I understand as I'm not to sure....do you mean the shot can be of anything but it has to be Portrait and wide angle to get the distortion...'Weird perspective'.?

Re: CHAT for Weekend competition 21st-22nd July 2007

For me it is more the idea that the photo has to be taken almost vertically as in the shots above ie from the base of the flower / lamp post / building etc upwards or vice versa from the top of a building straight downwards. The subject can be whatever you want.

this shot of yours would be fine (love the shot btw Smile [:)])

as for portrait or landscape presentation as far as i'm concerned that doesn't matter but check with jimmcq - the idea is the sense of perspective (probably not the right word but i hope you know what i mean Smile [:)])

    hope that helps (a bit)

OK... so it's a shot looking straight up (more or less) or straight down (more or less) that gives a 'different' rather than 'wierd' view of the subject?

Wow, great theme... this can be lots of fun!

I already have the perfect shot for it' it was one of my rejects for the "Human Included" competition. I might just go out again this weekend to see how repeatble it is, if the muse doesn't offer something better before the competition ends Smile [:)]

What makes it even better is that I won't have to worry about setting up a poll Big Smile [:D] because nothing I've ever taken comes anywhere near the quality of the sample pics in this thread.

Les, having lots of fun with these competitions

Ah but how 'almost' vertically? Shouldn't we set a minimum angle? Wink [;)]

DB before I start let me make this clear that this is not directed at you.

It always seems that whoever makes the choice of subject has to come back on and clarify what they meant.
Since Gill and I decided this one, I will give my view. Yes your shot should be Portrait Format. No you don't need to use a wide angle (DB we know you got that nice new wide lens) you can use any lens you have available.

Not everyone sticks to the brief anyway. We almost always have shots that do not stick to it. I will try to go out and take an interesting shot of an interesting subject from a different perspective. That is how I will interpret the theme. The point is to go out have fun, hopefully bring back a few good shots and maybe learn a little something also.

OK I have said my bit and I hope I have made my position clear.

    Jim.
