Critique thread....warts and all. NOT for the easily offended.

I thought i would start this thread for people to give criticism on each others photos.

"we already do that" i hear you say.

Well this one is with a difference....

How many times have we looked at a photo that someone has posted and thought "that is cr@p", but said "i like it, but it could be made a little better by...", just so we dont offend the poster.

Well this thread is for those who want honest, insulting/praising, no holds barred, 'warts and all' criticism.

Please dont post a picture if you are easily offended. And please dont use this to slag someone off. Its for honest, good AND bad criticism.

If the mods think its a bad idea then please delete.

I will kick it off with this one, taken with an old digital camera about 7 years ago...

Tell me that the colours are flat, the sky is rubbish and that i shouldnt give up my day job. I have broad shoulders and can take it.

For me, it looks too normal, also there is nothing that really attracts me in this photo. Oh and the colours are flatSmile [:)] And by the way great topic.

Taken today, it's an old clock and i tried to make it look "mysterious". However i'm not sure if it's not too dark?

Is there a clock somewhere there?

Seriously, i like it. However it is a little dark, but taken from a good angle though.

Really like this photo and i can't see anything wrong. Only thing than negatively stands out is that white stuff on the tree above the man. I would rather see all the trees in the same colour. Now it's distracting (for me).

filter99 criticising you feels like telling Richard Branson how to run a company!! lol but the highlight look slightly blown to me, and it looks slightly over sharpened, but that might be the highlights again?

To be fair most critiques in 'pics for critique' thread are tame! I have worked for a professional media company (computer side) and any photographer there would have given a very harsh critique on a lot of photos there! and the 1st post does clearly say no rudeness! In the professional world you will get rudeness!
So I think both threads are seperated enough to justify both!

Someone else who didn' bother reading the rules in the first post...
    only 2 rules are

genuine constructive ciritiques (no bitchin just for the sake of it and no downright rudeness)

you cannot post a new picture until you have made a critique (1 critique equalls 1 new picture you can post)

and thats it, just remember that you can argue your case (if you think your pic is great then you justify your reasons, ) this is not a slagging off thread its a place where you can gain some real insight into better photography. have fun but above all tell the truth and dont be offended by crucial comments on your work

But that's ok, it seems you're not alone. Numerous others have posted an image before giving a critique.

Can't wait for the real critiques to appear in here.

I dont believe I was slagging anyone off, I was saying people generally are nice to each other!
Feel free to rip into my photo then!

Re: Critique thread....warts and all. NOT for the easily offended.

    I kinda like the idea,

but a thread where you can offer "good" or bad criticism, isn't that what all the threads with pictures involve?

as for people who think pictures are cr*p and post saying  "I like it"...instead of a thread where they can indulge their honesty, shouldn't we have a thread offering them counselling?

Dunno, thinnking out loud, there was a simply awful shot newly posted recently. It was ghastly and pointless and a few people said so. (quite rightly in my opinion.)

but a few people were also cool and tried to be positive and helpful, which is one of the great things about this site.

In relation to the original post though, I just don't see how, erm, well, one rule says be honest, and another says don't slag stuff off.

I just remember thinking, if someone had the wit and ability to know how a computer works and were able to take and upload a shot, then surely they were smart enough to know that their pictures was  rubbish.
