    Automotive Photography

As some of you will have probably noticed recently I have returned to the site, why?well simply because I can't find the passion I see here for photography on many other sites. I'm trying to keep my head down this time (lol) and not rock any boats so egg shells are the order of the day. As many people know I mainly shoot automotive with about 70% of my corporate work being in this area. After putting some images on a thread recently it attracted some angry responses as not everybody likes car shots, which is fair enough. My answer is to open a separate thread so those who prefer say flowers or landscapes can look elsewhere and not have to suffer the work in here.

I'm not sure if this will take off as well as the 'Street Photography' thread I started earlier this year but at the end of the day most of us have cars and they are a very interesting subject to try and master as they actually do have their unique hurdles and problems to overcome, many of these I learned the hard way. I thought it might be good to have this place so that if you would like to try this area of work or have some in the can already, post them here as I and I'm sure many more people would love to enjoy them.

I've kicked things off with a selection of some recent ones that I have done, please do note however that I have an obvious advantage here as I do this for a living so please don't think your shots are not good enough, this area is for everybody and I'd love to see your work.

Should be interesting to see the shots we get...I keep wanting to do my own car after seeing yours but I'd have to spend a week editing out tar on the wheel hubs, scratches and bugs that are know part of the paintwork.Big Smile [:D] So it puts me off.

    Re: Automotive Photography

Great idea for a thread. I have the same problem as David, more muck and dirt on my car than shiny paintwork. However this may make for a good shot in the right context.

    Re: Automotive Photography

For me this is fantastic thread as I am a car nut.  It's not an area of photography that I have explored yet so am going to try and give it a bash.

I am doing up a battered old Mini so I might try and get some shots this weekend of that.  Then again, there's a guy in the office next door to me that has a Lotus so I might try that first.

One day I'll have a Lotus Smile [:)]

Gill this is great in my view, got the angles and you've done some detail on what you view as the important points. Like the odometer as well, nice touch.

You guys are right, if your car is not a psh one then you can't really do it, however thats not really true, my cars 7 years old at the moment and when I started to try and learn I just hit the dealers, the cars I shoot are mainly in restoration and not the ones I post on here sometimes, its equally hard to show an Aston well if its hanging....lol

As I said before post away, all stuff is good stuff, thats what the site is about right!

Here's a not complete car but at least its clean, the ket was obviuosly the lighting (speed light with shutter locked on B, and a tourch with an asda carrier bag over the front to soften and diffuse)

This is a Vignarle which is worth a packet, even in this state, recently found in a shed quite litterally, I was asken to go to the location in London to shoot it and found this.

    The big find

    Big find 2

Nice one, this really is a classic, good solid colour also.

    • Like the wheel turned in slightly and a good bright alloy at the front, spot on!
    • The low angle really works well as the car would otherwise expose too much bonnet across the front that would distract the viewer, good call mate.
    • Number plate, have a bash at putting your own text in there if you can its not too difficult, use basic text, then transform it to fit the perspective, finally blur it off slightly as nothing is that crisp in real life.
    • Background is great and the green is a good contrast against the red.

All in all I like it, good job mate and thanks for sharing it with us
