    D80 problem

Hello to all from very cold Sheffy.

Help required please,my new D80 has got me baffled,i cant seem to set the ISO,it selects it itself, and the figures are displayed in red on the display, its sort of stuck in ISO AUTO,i dont recall choosing this option, its greyed out in the menus, but,i point the thing at different scenes and each has a different ISO rating.
I usualy work in A priority, but at the min i,m not working in anything, cant find anything to do with with this in the trouble shooting bit,,,,,HEEEEEEeeeeeeeeelllpppppppppp.

    Re: D80 problem

When I am in A Mode the 'Auto' option is not even avaiable as it is geyed out. Underneath I can only select a manual setting. i.e. select 100 then pres OK.

I'm not saying you have not tried this Tongue Tied [:S] but it seems strange that the Auto is even available in A Mode.

As you say,it is greyed out, but,i select Manualy an ISO,say 200,which shows on the menu at the time,i then take some pics, and the EXIF info reveals a totaly different ISO for each pic,as if the damn camera is making its own mind up,the D80 appears to meter each scene, and allocate an ISO accordingly, which is what i do not want.
Me now on verge of complete mental breakdown ? do you think anyone will notice ?

    Re: D80 problem

    Hi Billy,

A Google search revealed that Ken Rockwell refers to a "firmware defect" in the D80 which sets Auto ISO in all shooting modes.  You need to go into the Custom Settings menu (the pencil icon) and select menu item 07 Auto ISO to de-activate Auto ISO.  This will stop the camera setting whatever ISO it thinks is needed.

    Hope this helps mate.        Geoff

    Glad you found the problem.

Did you know there was a recent Firmware update for the D80 release end of Jan? I only found out the other day via another website.

No worries Billy...that's what the DCM "family" is all about....helping eachother with info....glad you got it sorted.

Camera gear in Aus seems to be on par price wise with the UK, but I think general cost of living wise, things like food, petrol, etc. are cheaper in Aus.      Geoff

    Re: D80 problem

Has anyone tried to install the firmware update to 1.10, I'm not sure that I really need to do this as I don't use windows vista? Does it throw up any new problems?

I'm a little scared of playing around with what is a very expensive bit of kit for me personally.

    Regards to all
