I'll kick things off as I am new here. Sort of.
My name is Anthony Grimley (Ant for short) I've been with Future since 1997 working in the online department. I took over as Editor for www.dcmag.co.uk at the end of February 2008. Previously I've been launching websites left, right and centre. I even had a short stint managing Jen and Jake when they were running the site.
I got my first camera, a leather-clad Kodak, from my auntie when I was 11. It was a great little thing with a great lens. It didn't matter bits of it were broken. The lens was great and it was mine. When I was 18 I got my first SLR, a Canon 1000F. There was a bit of a lull in my photography as processing and printing costs competed with student living. However, when I got my first digital camera, a Fujifilm Finepix 2700 all that changed, despite only having 2 megapixels to play with I became a shutterbug. Since then I've graduated on to digital SLRs and decreased the number of photos I'm taking: trying to get quality over quantity. I'm always learning new things and enjoy the journey as much as the result.
I like a wide range of photographic styles: good news if you're hoping to be selected for Photograph of the Day :) I admire people who try new things or go for difficult shots, people who put the effort in to get something unique. I'm looking forward to showcasing the great work of our community, helping you to learn new things and continually improving the website to make this an even better place.
Thanks for reading. Good to meet you, albeit virtually for now.

Hi Anthony, welcome to the forum.
I've not really considered my photographic past much. Started at a young age with a 110 donated to me by my nanna, then was bought a 35mm Hanimex compact camera (red!) for my birthday. I later realised at GCSE art that I couldn't draw or paint, but could photograph still life. I also found the school had a redundant darkroom (a closet near the canteen) which I managed to get a key for, and with my paper round and 14th birthday money I bought a Minolta Dynax 500si twin lense kit (with free bag!).
After leaving school the camera didn't come out much unless I was going somewhere (I never went to take photos, just took photo's when I went). I then bought a compact digital camera for taking mountain bike and landrover club shots for the online forum/magazine (the first Pentax Optio at £500!). Realised the limitations of digital at that time so still use the Minolta. After a trip to Inida I was very pleased with the old minolta but it really needed a replacement. I popped intto my local camera shop to buy an Nikon F something or other and after an hours chat walked away to think about going digital. Eventually (a year later) I went back and bought a second hand E-1.
It has served me well on two more trips and has had a tough life. But I am now realising it's limitations also, but god knows where I'll end up next ![Confused [8-)]](/emoticons/emotion-43.gif)
Now, can I ask, with the editors suddenly popping up on and spending time on here, are we going to get a mag this month - get back to work ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)

Hi All,
I am new here and still finding my way around the site and vast number of forums, I have never been in to forums and virtual friends, but I am finding out new things every day dipping in and reading new threads, and think it will be one of the best ways to become a more experienced photographer along with getting the DC Mag every month that is.
A little history, I first got in to photography via my granddad. He was a keen amateur and would let me use his expensive Minolta super T which I later got given when I went to collage in 1995 to do a photojournalism course, at the time digital was new and I would argue "I will never go to digital, you just don't get the same quality" I have since bought a Nikon D200 around 8 months ago and love how easily and quickly you can look, modify and print your days shooting. It has always been my dream to make a living from photography but as I am now older and I think a little more mature I have responsibilities which means at the moment I am stuck in IT Grrrrr ![Angry [:@]](/emoticons/emotion-12.gif)
Never know though if I keep working away and doing a little photography work on the side my dream may still some true ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
Take care guys.

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions
Hello, I'm (sort of) new here!
I have posted a few photos in my gallery here (I have a account in deviantart by same username, that I have been using more) but it's been a little bit occasional. I take my photos with my Canon PowerShot S3 IS with some filters and a Raynox fish-eye-extension. Usually I take HDRimages (3 exp usually), since when I got to the HDR-capturing it took me all the way ;O. I have been planning to buy me a Canon dSLR in nearest (I hope so) future.

Hi Everyone,
I am new here,I guess thats why I am writing in this forum...lol.I am 38 years old,and photography is the best thing to happen to me since meeting my wife and family.
I have lived on the beautiful Shetland Islands for over 16 years now,and never really realised what there is to be seen, until I got my camera,Christmas 2006.I only started getting the hang of it,in May 2007.Having the camera has opened my eyes to a whole new world.
Every opportunity I get,I am out and about getting photographs,my kit includes,Nikon D50 with 18-55mm lens,70-300 DG Macro Sigma, and my favourite,my 10-20mm Wide Angle Sigma lens.
My advice is,take your camera everywhere, because you might just miss that incredible shot.

Hello I'm new here, but not new....
....to photography.
Many years ago I used to be heavily involved in the Islington Photographic Society, but afetr leaving London for t'north and my wifes poor health my photography took a back seat.
However, I decided that I could spend some time on photography again.
Although I loved doing my own developing and printing monochrome, my circumstances dictated that this would no onger be feasible, so I've decided to join the 21st century by buying a digital SLR.
Not wanting to spend a lot of money on something I wasn't sure I would enjoy as much I bought a used Minolta Z1 and am surprised at all the facilities such a camera offers (you can even make it sound like a SLR or rangefinder!).
I am slowly getting used to it, but find that in some ways there are too many functions.
Has anyone got some advice on using the Minolta Z1 or general hints on getting to grips with a digital camera for beginners.

Re: Hello. I'm new here. New member introductions
Hi There Im sort of reintroducing myself here, ive been a member since 2006, but havnt been on since last April (didnt realise it had been that long). I live over in Barnsley and own a fujitsu s5600, just started getting back into photography after work commitments held me up. Now i have more free time and hope to concentrate my thoughts back into my photography. The main photography im into is probably mainly b/w, sepia and pictures of derelict and abandoned buildings. (they just fascinate me) but im trying to widen my overall scope of photography.
My picsPoetry is merely a theoritcal portrayal of the perfect picture
