    Architecture / buildings

I am sure there must be a thread for this subject but cannot find it!

In Leeds there have been protests by young  people in particular against the eviction of small shop businesses geared towards the youth market to make way for a food emporium. Only a handful of shops  remain now and I paid my first visit for years. I have to say it is far too beautiful a building for a small niche market and look forward to its reincarnation. A few pics to show its interior:

    Re: Architecture / buildings

I like those Jinky, especially the perspective of the 2nd one. What lens did you use for that one?

I had a wee experiment with this a while back at my workplace but am not overly happy with the results.  I know that there sre some tools in PS CS3 that will allow me to adjust the perspective but for the life of me can't figure out what they are.  Maybe someone could help?

    Anyway, comments welcome on this:

    Cheers

    Re: Architecture / buildings

    Ian,

In PSCS, if you use the rectangular marque tool around the image (not the border) and click 'Edit' and then 'Transform' there is the option to 'Skew'. By grabbing the top corner handles you can skew the top of the image out to straighten the verticals. I had a quick go and ended up with a bit of barrel distortion, but with a bit more knowledge and skill than I have, I'm sure it wont take long to sort that out too.

Hope this helps (and works with CS3!).

They were al taken with my Sigma 10-20mm lens - firstreal run out with it over the weekend when I went out aiming to get some architecture / abstract shots with just that one mounted. Great lens.

Like your office shot - would have been nice to get someone at their desk working late. Re: distortion I only have CS2 but in that if you go along the top to filter / distort / lens correction there are buttons open to transform on the vertical / horizontal plane. Of course the problem is that you lose some of your original image so if you have cropped tightly you need to accept loss of some parts of the image. If taking a shot where you know you will have this perspective problem you need to make allowances i taking the shot. Of course with my teach yourself limited  knowledge of PS there is probably a better way!

Here's one from a series of 7 I've just added to my gallery yesterday.  It's one of many individually interesting pieces of architecture forming part of a large complex close to the Opera House on the harbour foreshore in Sydney.  As a whole, the complex is fairly ugly, and has been roundly criticised, but it's a different matter when you get in close.

Cheers Jinky, I'll give that a bash at the weekend.

The night I took that shot I was the only one left in the office so I couldn't get anyone at their desk.  Things haven't changed much, I'm still usually the first to arrive and the last to leave (stupid mug that I am).  I'll have a word with one of my team to see if they'll mind me photographing them at my desk (my desk is at the window, the advantages of being the boss LOL).

    Cheers

    Great shot shelfy,

I get the opportunity to work in the states from time to time and was over last year. I got stuck at NY for 8 hours when I missed a flight so I hopped a tour bus. I am sitting here playing snap with my pictures. I have not posted any as yours are all better!

I don’t know how you found it but I got a sore neck from looking UP!

    Re: Architecture / buildings

thanx bodsao, it was a quick visit so I didn't really get out to see much, in fact I didn't really wanna go, but whwen I got there, I just thought it could be a photographers paradise...loads to see.architecture, run down industry, all sorts. and yup...sore neck time. everything was so big...especially the women.

got lucky with last shot, broth-in-law works in the building...had keys to roof, which was useful.

as for my shots being better...haha, I've only posted a few, you don't wann see the other 600.

    Re: Architecture / buildings

    lol,

I did wonder about the angle of the water towers!

I am betting you got plenty. I will hopefully get to go back later this year and I will take my new camera so I will see if I have managed to improve any.

I loved the harlem window shot, great reflections, great editting. I would love to try this shot but with different iconic views/reflections of NY in each window. I look foreward to seeing more from he trip.

    Very Nice,

But for mine half as good will have to do! lol.  They have just built a new town hall with a wall of glass in my home town so I will go and try that first. I may put some of my NY shots in the reflections and see if anyone notices.

Next trip is to France so camera will get a trial there first.
