Back again to your gallery. This comment is not on the quality of the photo, but on other ways the same theme could perhaps be dealt with. I think this frame would look great as a silhoutte against the setting sun (cliche'). If the strain of work needs to be highlighted, then a close up of the face (demostrating facial lines) or the hands only (using the net) could be other options. The latter may even be better in black and white.
I concede that I have no idea whether you had to take prior permission for the shot. Seeking so before a close up may also take away the "naturalism" from the facial expression....a zoom may be ideal in such cases.

Let me know what you make of the above thoughts.

I know where you are coming from.

I do think this one is a bit busy and not one of my best.  I have a few others but I cant decide on the final cropping and if they actually work or not.

The unfortunate thing was our timing, we only had a quick visit to this place and it was late morning.  So some of your options would have been difficult.  On hindsight I should have gone for a few more frames, different perspective, etc.

Most of all I think the background, the white float and support are far too distracting.

Still it is a moment that caught my eye and my only defence was that this was the first trip that I’d been out with the camera.

I appreciate your points. I agree it is only a moment, maybe just a fraction of a second, that we usually get to capture the image. We can then sit back and think "only if..." for eternity.

I have another shot that didn't work, but the fisherman looked like a Greek version of the Hulk.

And what made it even more funny was that he was mending the nets like an old lady knitting.

In a distant or not so distant, hi-tech future, we will have cameras in our eyes and as soon as we see the perfect image we can capture it exactly. I wonder how many times we have lost the image that caught our eye in the first place as we lined up the camera for the shot? How many lovely images have changed dramatically because someone saw the camera and decided to pose? I like this image, busy or not, once it makes me wonder what the story behind the photo is then it's a good photo IMHO.

I may be odd but I like the 'busy' aspect of the photograph, it seems to me this is one of those times to break the rules. There is just som much in there it makes your eye jumps around conveying the working atmosphere. The only thing for me is the float is too much of a draw to they eye, I would try a 'cheat' and clone it out or just dull it down.
