Beauty Junk

Beauty Junk

My first real effort at HDR, not too pleased with this shot as the foreground dosen't compliment the sky, in other words the sky is peaceful and beautiful and the foreground is mucky untidy etc. Please can you tell me what you think even if you don't like it, because i might revisit and try any tips people give me. Thanks in advance.

I like the foreground.  Great colour in the shot.  I agree with you tho.  Maybe just trying the shot with only the foreground running through the whole shot...

Just what you would expect to find though at the slipways, like this one very much, agree with MWNN a full frame foreground might look very good too, Detail and tones are excellent.

The image is very good. I'm not too bothered about the conflict between foreground and background. If I was being picky I might not  have gone for such a low angle on the shot and tried to reduce the impact of the foreground.   If the colour clash is eating at away at you could try to desaturate it a little.

Personally I believe this is a great image, and I don't see such a great conflict beetween the foreground and the sky. Seeing the photograph in expanded mode, I've   covered  the thinner blue rope on the foreground and it seems to me that leaving only the big spring line cutting a  very little bit of sky could give strenght to the composition in general, but it's only a detail...well done Andrew, another beautiful image from you. Cheers. bruno

Hi Andrew,  I love the detail and composition.  If I were to be picky, it would be that the blue nylon rope is a bit distracting, and maybe a little selective desaturation might help.  Otherwise it is so full of interest.  Cheers, Andrew.

Andrew, it was in fact the foreground details and the way they lead you towards the sunset that drew my attention to this picture. I agree with Bruno and Andrew that maybe the blue rope is a little distracting, but I like the textrues and details in the foreground. It contrasts with the sky but I think in a complementary way rather than clashing with it.

I don't think I'd have noticed any conflict between the foreground and background unless you'd pointed it out Andrew!  The textures and details are excellent, particularly in the foreground and the image is really well composed.  I think Bruno could be right about the blue rope and maybe it would be worth desaturating it a bit or cropping it out to see how that looks?  As first attempts go though, it looks pretty good to me! Kind regards, Anna

I've viewed it in expanded mode and I think maybe Bruno is right, it's the thin blue cord that maybe better cropped out. However I rather agree with Anna, as I doubt I would have noticed ! Also think you've got the potential for two shots there. The sky and buildings, plus a bit of the foreground and wall and another with the cordage etc on the wood. Well done anyway Andrew.  Rgds, Tina.

Great HDR andrew - what I like (in particular I mean as it is all so good) is that the shape of the rope seems to match the shape the clouds.  However you crop it it looks great to me - cheers - Nick

I'm in total disagreement with you here, Andrew - perhaps unknowingly, but perhaps just with natural ability to comp shots so well, the clouds seem to reflect the shapes of the rope somewhat, and so, it ties together quite well (pardon the pun)- I think it's a top shot, friend, one of your very best.  RB

It's a really great image, you should stick to what YOU think looks the best because at the end, you are the photographer. Other people can have a go at this scene their own way. Zuzana

It's excellent Andrew..........full of detail and interest. On top of that it is well composed and treated. I think that the blue rope is fine and forms an integral part of the whole. Follow your own instincts and you won't be sorry.

This looks to be a very good HDR piece and one you should be very pleased with.  I feel the foreground has as much attraction and detail as the distance horizon with that glorious sunset.  Congratulations on a great shot, regards Hoberty.
