Three Sisters and a Chair

Three Sisters and a Chair

One of these boats on the shingle at Dungeness was called Three Sisters, but to me the name seemed more appropriate for the three boats lined up next to each other. The garden chair was bedded down very snugly in the shingle and looked as though it had seen many a tide come and go but I resisted the temptation to park myself there for a while! I thought I'd have another go at this shot and so went back the following week but, when I got there (after getting up at 3.45 am!) this stretch of shingle was empty and the boats were out fishing. Huh!

Great image Anna.  The white paint on the boat goes really well infront of those grey clouds.

Another seafront masterpiece from you Anna - the boats contrast well with the sand and sky and the empty chair highlights the sense of space.   Love it ! - cheers - Nick

I like this one Anna.. Although the sky looks dark and threatening, its still a bright shot.. The boats look as though they have just been painted, Its got good exposure and detail..  And at least you got to enjoy the best part of the day getting up so early the second time.. Very well done, take care Mark

Anna, this is a very impressive shot and one that deserves a place on any gallery wall.  It is not only the strength of the foreground and your wonderful  control of the depth of field but also the other elements you caught in the frame – from the chair, seagulls and waves, through to that sky, all of which were just perfect at coming together in creating a lasting impression of the emotion of this scene.  Lastly, the gravel shoreline complements the paintwork of the principle boat and thus, enables it to standout against that magnificent sky.  In Short Anna, this is a fabulous shot and one that many of us would have wished we had taken ourselves.  The disappointment of the return visit captures the frustration we have all experienced at one time or other, and if it helps, it will be something we will kick ourselves for again in the future.  We cannot always have it all and the moments the elements conspire to work with us are truly special ones, just as they have done so here for you here.  Congratulations and warmest regards, Hoberty.

Lovely sense of balance with the boats and drama with the sky Anna.  The chair adds a kind of incongruity which makes the shot even more pleasing.  Great work.  Best wishes, Steve.

Congrats on MPOTD. I've just one quibble, and it might just be my monitor, but the light around the gunnels on the foreground boat looks odd and is not the same as the light on the background boats. As I say only a quibble - excellent image, and I really feel for you on the wasted early morning. Well done . Howard
