Prospect Cottage

Prospect Cottage

Prospect Cottage, Dungeness was the home of film maker Derek Jarman until his death in 1994. Despite living on a windswept expanse of shingle officially classified as a desert, he created a lovely garden using hardy plants and objects he found nearby. One side wall of the cottage bears the words of John Donne's poem "The Sun Rising" in raised wood. I wouldn't normally photograph someone's home from such close quarters but, having arrived at Dungeness at very early hour on a Sunday morning, it didn't seem likely that anyone was going to notice!

Anna - You have got this style perfected where the main subject stands out with great detail and colour but then the background sky/sea is a feature in itself without detracting from the main idea.  This is a lovely shot and I love the story to go with it.  regards - Nick

Lovely tones and colours Anna and a useful background info.  I seem to have seen this house before somewhere but I can't remember when.  I must be great living this far away from it all.  Nice shooting, Steve.

This is a perfect cameo of the location and the lighting is just right to portray the mood and textures of the materials that are as genuinely honest and unpretentious as your photograph.   Well done Anna.

This one gives you a really strong sense of isolation Anna, and the sky as usual is wonderful, as in all your other photos. Kind regards - Lee

Cracking shot Anna! I have a shot not too dis similar to this on my page you may of seen it. like the fact you mentioned his love of the garden. The boat in my shot was also full of flowers. I also have the window with the anchor round the side. It seems Mr Jarman also thought of photographers when painting and creating his magnificent abode. I love the sky in this shot fantastic work
