Southwold Pier at Dawn

An hdr image of southwold pier taken roughly 45 minutes after sunrise. This has been put together from 4 exposures in photomatix pro. I have then also played a small amount with levels and curves in photoshop to darken the image and emphasise the waves which look stunning on the original size. I was very lucky to get this bit of sun on the pier as it disappeared shortly afterwards. It was taken on the sigma 10-20 mm lens with a polariser attached.

You have really brought out a wonderful range of colour with HDR technique. The pier buildings stand out impressively against the dramatic sky. Charles.

Glad to see someone else has good taste Julian - congratulations on a very quick POTD slot - you see you don't have to spit the dummy out - give a swan song - and return - because you "missed your friends" - all you need is to post wonderful unique eye catching quality photographs - like this excellent one - simple really - is it not.!?!??!

PS Have a great Xmas break with your family Julian - and come back refreshed with many new images - I will - cheers Gil.

Thank you for all your kind words.  I tried to go for a more subtle HDR conversion to really just pull out the texture in the sky and sea which seems to have come off nicely.  The sea looks gorgeous in the original 3000 odd pixel wide original.  The posted one here is only around 1200 pixels wide so you don't quite get chance to zoom in close.  It almost gives me the impression of an oil painting rather than a photograph.
