Life Behind Bars

Life Behind Bars

Endangered due to the violent bushmeat trade and man's relentless grab for the entire planet. There is just one gene that seperates Chimpanzee's from Humans. Do we have no shame?

You've really captured the emotion in this image. The vignetting and the splash of colour in the eyes really pulls you in to create a powerful shot. Great shot - Ant.

Nice capture Sharon. A sad subject though.

And agree with your comments. Makes you wonder if Man's so-called "advanced" evolution over such species can be counted as a good thing :-(

Wo! Thanx very much guys! A very much appreciated POTD! Jo, you couldn't have put it better. Graham, that's the sad reality, and for which the world is a much poorer place. Thanx everyone for taking the time to comment, most of all because the little guy's sadness and plight deserves at least a moment of recognition. Thanks Ant! Rgds Sharon

This is a really good photograph. Well done on POTD Sharon.

Just a little point; chimp's DNA differs from ours by around 5%, not one gene. This may sound like not very much, but as more than 90% of genes are 'junk'' or 'spare', it is actually quite a significant difference. And there are 3 billion DNA base pairs in 23 genes. Still no excuse for cruelty. Sorry for being pedantic, but it's in my genes . . Howard. Those who are interested can find out more here: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn2833-humanchimp-dna-difference-trebled.html

Sharon, this is such a sad image that words like 'great' and 'fantastic' seem almost inappropriate. Man's cruelty to animals (and each other!) knows no bounds, this shot makes that point very powerfully, a great choice for the front page, congratulations. Rgds Paul

Superb shot Sharon - it's impossible not to be touched by his soulful expression and well done for highlighting the chimps' plight - if you've made those who've viewed this excellent image stop and think then it's a job well done.  Congrats on a nailed-on POTD!  Kind regards, Anna

We do not have the right to do this to these wonderful animals.  I just hope that the brutes who do this will have their deeds returned on them, but tenfold.  I'm not sure that I could have taken this photograph!
