Thanks Pete, yes if you want get this close you need either extension tubes (such as Kenko tubes) or a set of bellows. There is another way to get extreme close-ups, and that is to attach such as a standard lens in the reversed position on the end of your Sigma macro lens. This is usually accomplished by using an reversing ring.  However as you get closer lighting becomes a problem.
