I hear this old argument time and again - people say shoot in black and white to add drama , impact  and all that other clap trap - I say we can afford colour now so let the colur contrast make the real impact - let it speak for itself. Sorry for pontificating - but I like colour in my life - I went thro years of black and white when I couldn't afford the colour film and prints.  Remone this once you have read it Keith if you want. I will not vote on this one - 3 stars would be an insult to such a good photographer. Always comments with the best of intentions. Regards Gil

Hi Gil, thanks for your thoughts and comment.  I was the reverse to you and have done colour most of my photographic life (mainly slide).  I seemed to miss out on that b/w era, when everyone had medium format to play with and a darkroom in their bathroom they disappeared to on Sunday afternoons for long, lonely printing sessions.  I dabbled with b/w slide a few times, but it wasn't the same as getting a print right in the darkroom.  Colour and mono have different disciplines, one about light, shadow and form, and the other about the hues and beauty of nature.  Sometimes it is nice to change the disciplines of seeing and taking a photograph.  I hope that makes sense.

Keith

I like this. The branches frame it nicely and also provide the information to determine that the shadows are those of trees. Nicely composed. Not having seen the original colour shot - I would guess that the shadows have more impact in BW.

There was no colour version, Colin.  All shot mono.  Thanks for your support.

Thanks for your comment, Dave.  Sorry I have been so long with my reply, but had a family tragedy to cope with.
