The Hidden Path

When I saw the scene it looked like a window to another world as the trees framing the path were so dark and the path looked so appealing. But as is often the case when I take photos the end result looks nothing like the picture I had in my head and now I find the tree to the right somewhat unbalancing. A few paces further forward probably would have done the trick - not sure.

I have to confess a bit of a cheat. I took lots of pictures on this this being my favourite composition by far. But when I uploaded it, to my horror and in spite of the tripod and remote shutter, there was some camera shake. So I'm thinking it's time I learned how to use the mirror lock-up. In the meantime, rather than discard this photo I added another layer with some gaussian blur, then reduced the opacity to give a slight diffused look. I have never tried this on a night shot before, but I have to say I was quite pleased with the effect.

Candid shot. A steak of bright sunlight entered our lounge briefly as the sun burst through some thick cloud and came in through a gap in the blinds. Madeleine was just sitting in the right spot, half lit by the sun. I grabbed the camera and managed to get a single shot before it disappeared behind the cloud again.
