The Last Plantagenet King

The Last Plantagenet King

Another example of Leicestershire's royal heritage, this is the site of the battle of Bosworth in which the last plantagenet king of England - Richard III - was defeated by Henry Tudor in 1485. It effectively ended the War of the Roses. The battle still rages locally to clear the name of Richard the III as he has been cruelly mis-represented by historians and a certain William Shakespear trying to curry favour with Elizabeth I - not that you can blame them, she did have a habit of beheading her detractors!

Yes - remeber poor Mary Queen of Scots - but we wont go there - great image again Phil - a real unusual and very eye catching photo - I would have preferred to see a vertical flagpole - was it the distortion of the wide angle lens or was it really getting "bown over" - either way it is still an excellent  take - cheers Gil.

Nice shot Phil, I agree with Gil, But you would think that someone would sort out that flagpole, After all its probably the only thing that marks the ground where hundreds if not thousands Died..  No matter how long ago it was, its still a important peice of british history..  Still a great shot mate, Take care Mark

Thanks for your encouraging comments guys, they're always welcome. Gil & Mark I have a bit of confession - it's lens distortion causing the 'leaning' of the flagpole. It is actually bolt upright and very well maintained, in fact the whole battlefield is very well kept and they're in the process of relaying all the paths and refurbishing the Exhibition room. Regards Phil

What a great shot Phil! I love the sky and the flag, it must have been quite windy and I think it shows in the image. It has a nice energy. Well done. Zuzana

I love how you get the feel of the wind blowing the flag along its way with those beautiful punchy clouds.  Thanks for the history lesson - cheers Jo

Excellent exposure, Phil. I must admint, I don't mind a bit of lens distortion - it can enhance a shot in many cases. I think the shot would lack the same impact with a vertical pole. Cheers, Col.

Another great shot Phil, I agree with Colin, love the way the flag is distorted by the wide angle lens, it adds impact and interest. - Paul

Zuzana, Jo, Col, Paul, Thanks for your encouraging comments. I did get some shots without distortion but as you all suspect they do lack a bit of impact. Thanks again guys. Phil
