Really atmospheric sillhouette shot; I love the tassles on the hats and how sharply you've captured the flames. I might be tempted to either crop or burn the house top-left, though - it ruins the atmosphere and symmetry a little. -JD

Reckon the flames burnt the "house top-left" - some people obviously don't know there bottoms from their arms - why pick as potd only to criticise it !?!?!?! - irrespective - means little to my adoration of this fine photograph - leave well alone Redsnapper - it is a truly unique and a very good image - much better than the usual run of the mill boring shots often seen on the front page.
Please remove my previous comment - if it causes you any offence - I in no way meant to give the impression of shouting - just my style of typing comments - you image is superb and so refreshing to see here - regards Gil.

This really looks like a Bonfire Night in Lewes. Superb shot and I actually like the inclusion of the houses in the shot. Well done. Zuzana

Blimy I thought I'd stumbled onto a satanic worship site when I looked at this earlier... Great atmos to this you can really get engulfed in the picture. Top stuff!
If I were feeling like a challenge though I would say there is every reason to pick a POTD and comment on it critically as well as applaud it. That said I'd leave the house, think without it would be too scary!!

Many thanks all, I really appreciate the comments and feedback, and am thrilled to have got POTD. Funnily enough, I agree about the cropping/burning of the house top left, and was planning on doing exactly that at some stage. I just uploaded this version as an interim shot, really.
Mike - it was taken in Barcombe, a village just outside Lewes. In fact, the Lewes Bonfire Society form part of the (faintly satanic - I agree, Daisy & Steve!) procession.
