The Bottle House

The Bottle House

100 years ago, Tom Kelly could not find any bricks to build his house in Rhyolite, Nevada. To build his house, he used leftover whiskey bottles from the local tavern. Although 10,000 people once lived in Rhyolite, it is now a ghost town, with parts of only a few buildings still intact. Tom's Bottle House still stands, however, having outlasted them all. This is an abstract of the back wall.

wow. id never heard of the bottle house' so googled them. i know they have now been restored but they must have been well built to surive since the 1930's. one web site claims this house wasnt used between  1954 and 89 which is a pretty long time for a house made of bottles in a desert to survive. did you get anyother present day pics of the house? great abstract btw

I will post the full size view on the "Post Your Best Here" thread today.  Unfortunately, the house was fenced off when I went yesterday, so I was not able to get a better angle.  As a result, it's not "gallery-worthy."

Thank you for the kind comments.
