A Canon 5D the Canon 100-400USM L IS with a 2x convertor on at 300mm (600mm) and a USM mask in photoshop with a touch of dodge and burn to bring out the contrast in the pits\highlights! :)

The lens is a touch soft at 400mm (800mm) so I didn't zoom quite so much to get better detail. Also a tripod and a manual release is a must have with these shots. Another good tip would be ppl often think its a stationary object but its not it does move so I think a reasonably fast shutter speed of about 1/20th to 1/30th sec seems to work well. Its a manual mode shot only too camera metering always over expose these shots! Hope this helps :)
