Safety Valves

Safety Valves

The Dinorwig Quarry Workshops (now the National Slate Museum) were originally powered by the largest waterwheel on mainland Britain. at over 50 feet in diameter, the wheel is still turning today. Sometime in the more recent history of the workshops a more efficient Pelton Wheel was installed - this is a photo of the control valves.

A great piece of history, wouldn't fancy my chances of getting out if the wheel was going though! Cheers,
